Absolutely perfect place. Wonderful hosts. I’d love to return! Most welcoming and very comfy. Event breakfast and good conversation with English speaking owner. So charming. As soon as I’m able, I will return! And Turin was lovely.

See the blurb. Al Porta Susa is, to my mind, the perfect B&B.

A friend once told me, once a hotel is older than 3 years old, don't believe anything you read about it. Marco's place totally changed my mind. A well maintained residence with character, like good wine, ages beautifully.

I come from a country where any structure older than 15 years old is bulldozed, and something shiny and new put up in it's place. Where I live, nothing that is old (and not designated a cultural treasure) looks good or works. Marco's place is a living example as to why the aforementioned ethos has its failings. From the painted fresco ceilings, to the vintage floor tiles and wooden parquet, his apartment is a treasure that oozes personality. The varied prints, sculptures and art pieces that adorn every inch of his house add to the character of the place (Marco has impeccable taste, he manages to paint his bedroom to match a blue summer sky complete with birds and get away with it). I told Marco at some point in my stay, that I wished that my place looked like his.

Okay, down to brass tacks.

The location is great (it is right next to Al Porta Susa station). Al Porta Nuovo station is more central, but also a LOT more crowded and congested. We found Marco's place to be the perfect balance between convenience and congestion. At this point I want to shamelessly plug the restaurant at the ground floor of where Marco lives (it is an Italian restaurant run by Chinese immigrants that have lived in Turn for the last 11 years, and it is GOOD). I also want to plug the gelato place two block's down from where Marco lives (it has Granitas to die for). In my defence, both contribute my review of the location of Marco's place.

Breakfast is good, but not sinfully so. Marco baked bread for us before running off for work, now that is dedication. Together with various jams, honeys and juices, that made us all set to run out and do stuff.

The apartment is clean (not spotlessly so, as old buildings do come with a wee bit of dust, but Marco keeps the place in very good shape).

I'm missing something out... oh! Marco Bononi himself. He is an immaculate gentleman, and a warm, informative and considerate host who went out of his way to make us feel at home (we arrived in Turin at an ungodly hour, and it was Marco that made sure that we didn't end up sleeping in the streets).

I know I have been rambling so I will cut this short. If you find yourself in Turin, look Marco up. You will not be sorry. In fact, you will be very very very un-sorry.

I remembered my delightful surprise when I stepped into the B&B in the beautiful historic building and was surprised by the gorgeous room with fresco ceiling and vintage furniture that added character to the room without sacrificing modern comfort including new bathrooms, lightning wifi, and one of the most comfortable beds I have been. It was a home away from home!

However, the friendly host Marco was key that made this stay more homely. My amazing stay at this B&B started even before I landed in Italy when he emailed me to arrange when I could drop my luggage. Marco has been accommodating to my requests and made sure that I was at home at his place. I was very happy to have the privilege to stay at his place and meet him, and I believe you too will find a home here at Marco's place.

This is a grest B&B in an apartment builiding that was actually owned by the hosts grand parents and has a lovely old world charm. It is located close to Porta Susa train station and an easy walk to the city. The rooms are clean, bright & spacious. The host is very friendly and very happy to offer advice or general chatting. As I woman travelling on my own I felt very comfortable & safe. I even forgot I had to leave. I will stay here again on my next trip to Turin.

I stayed at Al Porta Susa for one night while in Turin. I arrived by train, and easily walked to the B&B. Even for one night, the location gave me a chance to walk around Turin, have a great meal next door, and meet up with my friends the next day. Marco was a gracious host sharing his home with guests and was accomodating for my arrival time. The room was spacious, access to the living room and kitchen, too. There were two shared baths, which was enough for the number of rooms- although I was the only guest at the time.

I spent a couple of nights here with a few friends on the way back from a ski trip and it was a joy to go from our slighty 'cosy' accommodation in Val Cenis to the well furnished and spacious AL Porta Susa B&B. Marco was a very gracious and helpful host who spoke excellent English and it was wonderful to get to hear a couple of my friends practising on the grand piano.
I'd definitely stay here again should I make another visit to Turin.

If you are bored with the usual European City Hotels then I've just experienced the perfect place for you to stay in Torino! You push open large, heavy wooden doors and leave the bustle and noise of the Corso Inghilterra far behind. You are magically transported back in time in the original wrought iron lift and you alight in the cool, calm space outside Marco's beautiful apartment, inherited from his Grandparents. The ceilings are high and on occasion painted with huge detail, the windows large and the decor intelligent. My single room, called Mozart, was eloquent with loaded bookshelves, French windows onto a narrow balcony, a tropical plant climbing towards the ceiling from the floor and a delightful leather topped deak which was perfect for sitting at with my Notebook computer. Marco offers WiFi at no extra charge and there is a computer in a corner of the hall for general use. There are two bathrooms for guest use and Marco and his partner have separate rooms closed off from the B&B. The kitchen and Breakfast Room are shared, as is the beautifully proportioned Sitting Room with a Grand Piano which Marco offers the use of to any guest who has the expertise to play it. Marco hosts breakfast at 0800 and makes perfect Capuccinos, this may seem early but he has to then go to work. If you are looking for a hazy, lazy, lying about holiday neither Marco's apartment nor Torino are the right choice for you. Marco is passionate about his home town Torino and being a linguist is able to light a spark of that passion for you in a number of languages, of which his English is excellent. My single bed may not have been the most comfortable that I've ever slept in but the ambiance of the apartment as a whole was perfect. If, like me, you relish somewhere different to stay during your travels I utterly recommend Marco's apartment. Torino has much to offer too and is breathtakingly surrounded by The Alps, which seem within touching distance.

uncomfortable beds, and breakfast was served on scratched plastic plate and plastic cups, but Marco is very accommodating if you have questions about Turin. i didn't experience any home made baked goods but the croissants from the downstairs bakery, yogurt and juice were fine and he makes a good cappucino. Good free internet service.

Very charming place B&B, but it's on the seconf floor on a very busy street, so if you are sensitive to traffic noise you'll have to sleep with earplugs or choose another place to stay.

Most conveniently located near Porta Susa railway station in a characterful old building. Beatifully kept and very spacious apartment, spotlessly clean. Definitely nothing for people which just rush into a uniformly-designed room to take a shower and sleep. Definitely THE place to be for people who have an eye for painted ceilings, who do not have a problem to share a night with hundreds of books on the wall and who appreciate to have a private CD/DVD collection and a grand piano at their disposal.
Excellent value for money, you will not find any better in pricey Turin. Marco, the owner, is simply a perfect host. Take some time to talk to him in whatever language.
