Leon d'Oro is a family-run hotel in the centre of Orta, which is a gem of a location. Lake Orta is the smallest and westernmost of Northern Italy's lakes and is a real jewel; nestling amongst surrounding mountains, which disappear to the North into the Alps. Orta village sits on a peninsula on the eastern edge of the lake at...

This was our first visit to the lakes and Lake Orta proved a great choice with Hotel Leon d'Oro proving to be a perfect choice of hotel. I visited with my wife and 6month old son and the hotel staff were fantastic-very polite, helpful and attentive. In the mornings my son already had a high chair set up at a...

This is the 3rd hotel we have stayed in in Orta - perhaps one of the only 3 hotels in this tiny town. Contrary to all the remarks about bad customer service, we have never had a problem here. It is clean, fairly priced, and has a great location. The bathroom is gorgeous. Much better than the other 2 hotels...

Good-sized hotel alongside village square and right on the waterfront. Superb location for exploring the village and accessing the ferries. Stayed just at end of season, so no trouble getting a room just walking in off the street. All but the standard rooms seem to have lake views. We were in a 'superior' double (room 103; 114 euro) at the...

We were part if a large wedding group and all agreed the rooms were very individual and spotlessly clean, having read previous reviews made us a bit concerned about staying here, the staff & ladies were always polite and mostly smiling, although they could be more attentive to their guests, requests for coffee/tea took a bit longer than usual, We...

Our family of 4 booked a room for 2 nights with nice water/island views. We were aware of us travelling during high season but in hindsight realised the room was totally overpriced. The delapitated bathroom had old fittings, was tiny, filthy and we could not even turn in the claustrophobic shower without hitting our elbows at the walls. However, the...

This is a beautifully located hotel in a very charming village. I'm not normally a review writer (!) but I wanted to share my view having read the reviews of others over the hotel (and the people in the hotel). Our experience here was very positive and we found everyone in the hotel very friendly. I think you just have...

We booked 10 rooms on the occasion of my daughter's marriage and were quite satisfied with the rooms and with the service. The rooms could not have been cleaner, and the owner, Barbara, was very helpful when we asked to wash and iron our clothing and when we asked to use her printer. The people working in the hotel are...

We stayed at this hotel as part of a wedding party at the end of last month, and never, ever, have I encountered such apalling service. Clean well looked after hotel, beautiful location but the owners/staff in this hotel need basic lessons in customer care. No hello, miserable unfriendly faces. I actually thought it was a wind up!. We also...

Wow the owners of this hotel must have attended the Basil Fawtly school of charm from which they emerged with a distinction! The hotel is clean and in a great position however when you are spending your hard earned money the least that you should expect is a smile and maybe a "Hello". None of which is forthcoming in this...
