We stayed here the first week of September 2021. This was our first visit to Cividale. First of all, the staff was courteous and helpful whenever we had questions. They made us feel very welcome. The room was clean and comfortable with a great view of part of the town and the countryside and the mountains beyond. It didn't have a kettle but one was provided on request. The location was great for us. It's a 15-20 minute walk to the station and it's in the historic center. The breakfast was excellent with meats, cheeses, sweets, bread, yogurt, and even eggs cooked to order. Because of Covid, breakfast is served by the staff rather than buffet style. You won't go hungry. We would not hesitate to stay here again.

We stayed here for 5 nights as part of a cycling trip around the area, we found the staff delightful and helpful.
It is a family owned hotel, and has been in the same family for 80 years. Breakfast is served by the staff, no buffet, local San Danielle prosciutto cheese, eggs anyway you want.
We had half board and evening meals were provided by a restaurant in the main square a few minutes away, which worked very well, you got to see what’s happening and the menu had enough selection to keep you happy for several visits
The cycling routes in Collio through the vineyards were wonderful, into Slovenia for a day, all very beautiful

Al Pomo d’Oro is perfectly located in the lovely town of Cividale, steps away from the pretty vibrant town square. The hotel was clean and comfortable and the staff was so welcoming and helpful. Breakfast was freshly prepared and served on the sunny outdoor terrace. Highly recommend staying here for a base to explore the region!

Accommodated the entire hotel for my daughters wedding in August 2022. The hotel staff couldn't do enough to help. In the run up to the wedding they ensured everything was expertly arranged and the check in process was quick and easy. The staff are amazing, polite and so friendly nothing is to much trouble. They even bought the Newlyweds a wedding gift! How generous and thoughtful

Breakfast was perfect and the views from the terrace are incredible. The hotel is spotlessly clean and comfortable. It is centrally located to explore Cividale centre and quick access to the train station for day trips away from the centre. Highly recommend this hotel if looking for a superb location in a beautiful town with traditional Italian values.

Simply perfect.

Really lovely location near one of main squares. Smart room with view of Slovenian hills. Highlight was breakfast with delicious cakes and eggs on terrace looking across to distant hills. Seemed that used for local business people to stay. Found nice swim spot near river. Only slight reservation was that it felt a little impersonal, which may have been as we only stayed one night.

My wife and I stayed here at the end of a self-guided bicycle tour. The hotel facilities were very nice. Everything was clean, breakfast was delicious and beds were comfortable. But, the primary reason I'm writing this review is the absolutely outstanding customer service we were provided. We mailed a package on our last day in Italy. There were multiple problems of our causing with that mailing. The hotel staff repeatedly assisted us in solving our issues with the package. They continued to assist for over a month after we left the hotel. They had zero responsibility for our package, but helped us each time we emailed them. We greatly appreciated their assistance and wanted everyone to know about these good people.

Cividale del Friuli is a very well preserved medieval town in Friuli region of Italy and Locanda al Pomo d'oro is the perfect place to rest, savor and enjoy your visit. Their rooms are just the right size and the view of the town from our hotel window was breathtaking. The meal we enjoyed in the hotel's patio restaurant was outstanding, from start to finish. Free breakfast is heavy on sweet cakes and fruit, but the cook will scramble some eggs if you ask. No elevator so if you have problems with stairs ask for a ground floor room if available.

We have stayed here several times at this family run locanda in Cividale (20 minutes from Udine) and revisited recently. Room was comfy and nicely decorated and looked out over the valley and mountains. The restaurant is excellent--first night we enjoyed thin slices of S.Daniel's ham, pumpkin gnoochi, pork slices w/ mushrooms and salad. Everything was freshly prepared and delicious. One day when I was tired and under the weather...the kitchen prepared a special pasta in broth for me and a great salad for my spouse and delivered all to our room. Their hospitality is superb....oh yes, the breakfast is unbeatable.....a great plate of sliced ham and cheeses and wonderful fresh-baked breakfast cakes. To have a truly good Italian experience, this locanda and town are perfect. Gerry and Bob from Seattle, WA

Touring Italy and Slovenia, we spent one night at the Pomo d’Oro in July. It was basic but comfortable and functional, and the staff were helpful and friendly. Our room was comfortable but plain, with an uninspiring view. The main drawback was the lack of air conditioning, which in temperatures in the high thirties (nineties for Americans) made for a sweaty and less than perfect night’s sleep. The hotel is in a pretty piazza with plenty of metered parking in front, though if coming by car it’s a good idea to download their map to help you negotiate the one way-system. The restaurant menu looked good, but had no outside seating and no customers, so we went around the corner to the to Piazza Paolo Diacono find somewhere with a bit more atmosphere. The Taverna Longobarda was great, and served the biggest pizza I have ever had – hanging off my plate 2 inches all round. (The house white was very nice, but the red was undrinkable.)

The atmosphere, and our experience, might have been very different had we arrived a few days earlier. The previous week Cividale had hosted the 'Mittelfest', a lively festival of central European theatre and music, which had attracted visitors from many countries and finished the day before we arrived.

Breakfast at the Pomo d’Oro was adequate. There is a buffet with a small range of packeted pastries and jams, and the waiter offers you a large plate of local cheese and the very tasty local San Daniele Ham. Cividale del Friuli is a bit off the beaten track and does not get a lot of visitors, and most of those it does get appear to be German or Austrian. In cooler weather, in a different season, or even the week of the 'Mittelfest', the Pomo d’Oro might come into its own and be a very different and more inviting place, but we probably wouldn’t want to go again in high summer.

The room was quite small, but with a special comfortable atmosphere created by some quaint details. The bathroom was also small but very clean and modern.
The breakfast was very good (even good bread - considering it's Italy)
Good and quiet location in the old town. And last but not least very friendly staff (probably a family managed hotel).
