A lovely little hotel tucked away 5 minutes walk from the historic centre of the city. Comfortable rooms and very helpful reception service. Nice breakfast room with the option to sit outside in the garden. Highly recommended.

My sister and I booked this hotel several months ago, based on its fabulous reviews and gorgeous garden area for breakfast. The staff on the front desk were unfailingly polite, welcoming and helpful, with dinner tips and reservations, map, taxis and even phone calls.

If you don't have heavy luggage it is also possible to walk, crossing the center it takes 35 minutes. By taxi it takes around 10 minutes for 10/12,00 euro.

No, the Porta San Mamolo is not just in the center; it is just at the edge of where the old city wall passed (that's why it is called "Porta" (Gate)). To get to the Piazza Maggiore, you have to walk four long blocks. The area is very nice, however, and there is a good restaurant at the corner called Sangiovese.

We had a hire car to get to the hotel and then walked everywhere. There is a bus map at people.reed.edu/~reyn/BolognaMap.pdf which is a bit complicated but the A bus looks like it goes within a few 100 yards of the hotel.
