Stayed here for two night.
Great advantage of this hotel is it has secure parking which is hard to find in centre. Charged at 22 euros night is quite reasonable when you consider street parking is 9 euros anyway.

Location is about 3 km from the trainstation, cost about €12 for the taxi. Nice staff, english is ok, average room, average breakfast, very nice backyard for eating breakfast. Quiet area, a bit to walk to the citycenter area.
We were a group of 9 friends and we all loved this friendly and comfortable hotel. The staff were happy to help with all our needs and enquiries and went out of their way to make sure everything ran smoothly.

to reach our Hotel from the Train Station (there is only one main Station Bologna Centrale) it is possible to take a bus (33, 32 or 30 but probably 33 is the easiest one), you can get tickets at the bus tickets office TPER (you find it at the exit on your right side), it will take around 15 minutes to reach Piazza di Porta San Mamolo stop, 2 minutes walking distance from us.
If you don't have heavy luggage it is also possible to walk, crossing the center it takes 35 minutes. By taxi it takes around 10 minutes for 10/12,00 euro.

No, the Porta San Mamolo is not just in the center; it is just at the edge of where the old city wall passed (that's why it is called "Porta" (Gate)). To get to the Piazza Maggiore, you have to walk four long blocks. The area is very nice, however, and there is a good restaurant at the corner called Sangiovese.

We had a hire car to get to the hotel and then walked everywhere. There is a bus map at people.reed.edu/~reyn/BolognaMap.pdf which is a bit complicated but the A bus looks like it goes within a few 100 yards of the hotel.
