We spent a night here as a family in the quadruple room, which was a perfect fit for us. We could wheel our stroller right into the large, clean, well-designed room and the hotel had set up a travel cot for our younger son. We parked in the small garage recommended by the hotel, which was close by but was...

It was our first trip to Rome, I found the hotel through Trip Advisor. LOVED it! It is so cute, only 6 rooms. Ours was the perfect size, very comfortable, clean and with a lovely bathroom and killer shower! After touring Rome for 4 days, I was actually so happy that the hotel was located in Trastevere...it was such a...

We just spent 5 days in Rome touring the sights. Found this hotel on the web, and for once everything was as advertised. The hotel is very small - about 5 rooms, but there usually is staff on site, and if not, a phone call away. The hotel consists of two nicely restored 13th-century buildings with a small courtyard in...

Each time I visit Rome, I stay in the Residenza Santa Maria. It is impossible to find a more comfortable and home-like place with caring staff members who go out of their way to take care of your every need without bothering you. This was my third time and I loved every minute of it. Because the Residenza is small...

Just returned from a 3 night stay here. The hotel is in a fabulous location - lots of great bars and restaurants close by and in walking distance of all the sites. The hotel staff were friendly and very helpful.

Well, it was only two nights, but we - .y wife and I - had at wonderful weekend, and Residenza Santa Maria proved to be absolutely excellent. Small and cozy without many facilities, but quiet and clean, with a very good breakfast, and in a location as taken from a Fellini film from 1957. Oh, and bicycles free of charge....

The room and building was well cared for and attractive. Staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. The breakfast was one the nicest we had anywhere. Location is less than 10 minute walk from main sites down-town and the local area is quiet, colorful and friendly.

Stayed in this gem in the Trastevere part of Rome for 4 nights. Picked this hotel based on reviews here and the proximity to our daughter's college (John Cabot) as we came for a visit. I had been in communication with Residenza for 3 months prior to our visit, so it was nice to finally meet the staff. What can...

Staying in Trastevere

Neighbourhood Profile
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Residenza San Calisto ( previously know Residenza Santa Maria), is a small exclusive Hotel de charme, located I the heart of Rome, just a stone's from the magnificent and picturesque square of Santa Maria in Trastevere. This boutique Hotel is the result of the skilful restoration of a 17th century building. The whole house is dominated by brick arches, wooden ceilings, artistic hand painted frescos and wall decorations which give to the Residenza Santa Maria an atmosphere of refined elegance. With only 6 rooms, the Residenza Santa Maria is somewhat smaller than its namesake which allows for even greater atmosphere, notwithstanding the fact that having only recently opened it is also equipped with high tech environment. The large and quite, no smoking, rooms, some of which family rooms, are fully equipped with private bathroom with tub and shower, A/C, telephone, mini-bar, safe, satellite flat panel TVs, free internet connection, boiler for tea/coffee and other amenities. In the breakfast room, once a Roman cistern of the II cen. BC, decorated by original ancient Roman artifacts found on site during restoration of the building, guests can enjoy a rich and delicious buffet breakfast, (scramble or boiled eggs, ham, cheese, salami, fresh bread, assortment of biscuits, cakes, fresh fruits, yogurt, fresh croissants, selection of fruit juices etc.). Thanks to great location, from the Residenza Santa Maria, guests can easily reach the main tourist sites like Campo de' Fiori, Navona Square, the Pantheon, Spanish Steps, Trevi's fountain, the Roman Forum and Coliseum with just a relaxing stroll through a maze of fascinating medieval streets. The Vatican Museum/Sistine Chapel and St Peter's Square are a few minutes away. Furthermore Trastevere, apart from the beauty of its mediaeval narrow little streets, is filled with typical restaurants, markets, pubs and cafes. The Residenza Santa Maria also offers services like transfer to and from the airport, private guided tours, laundry service, shiatsu massage, beauty centre, baby sitting service and car and scooter hire, as well as offering free use of bikes to its personal guests. ... more   less
