This is no fault of the premises but turned out to be not what we prefer in a Hotel atmosphere. The room was clean and had free toiletries which was very nice. We did not like the location of the Hotel in the City either. We thought we would finish our Italy trip in a different area of the City...

This was a very positive experience. Please remember that this is a B & B, not a 5 star hotel. That said, I would highly recommend it. The personal service couldn't have been better. The room was spotless, and very large and comfortable. My only complaint was that the pillows needed upgrading. The location was in the middle of Trastevere...

This beautiful hotel is right in the center of the best neighborhood in Rome, you feel like a local being in close proximity to special gems as well as the well known sites. They were very friendly and helpful, I will definitely be back!

Attractive and comfortable small hotel, perfectly located in the heart of lively Trastevere, yet remaining relatively quiet and peaceful. Staff were friendly and helpful. Small improvements could be made, such as providing proper cups instead of styrofome, but facilities were generally good, and we found the hotel a welcome oasis from the business of Rome. Very clean and well run....

Having been to Rome a few times before, I had decided on a hotel in the Trastevere region and had researched quite a few different places. In the end, as is the nature of these things, I took a leap and booked an apartment in the Jewish Ghetto across the river, just above the Roman Forum. Operated by Hotel Residenza...

A boutique hotel in the heart of Trastevere which in itself is particularly charming. A lovely quiet spot but within walking distance to restaurants and bars to fully experience La Dolce Vita. The Hotel is clean and well appointed and offer a filling breakfast with plenty of choice to start your day in the capital. The staff are excellent, extremely...

Our family of four (my wife, two boys - six and three - and I) stayed at the Via del Portico di Ottavia apartment operated by the Hotel Residenza San Calisto in the Jewish Ghetto for three nights over the Easter holiday. While my wife and I had spent a good amount of time in Rome previously, it was our...

Quanit hotel, friendly and very helpful staff. Covenient enough location, especially to tram and buses. Reception is not serviced 24 hours, but it's no problem. They give you code to enter premises after hours. Close to restaurants.

This is a great value hotel in a top location, yet quiet and secluded. Comfortable rooms; helpful, friendly management; good security. Nice library and places to chill out or chat while waiting for a cab or friends etc.

Staying at Residenza san Callisto was a great experience. The little Flat nearby the Hotel is perfect for all kind of stay. We appreciated every single minute spent there. Super clean, equipped with all necessary tools and right in the heart of Trastevere. Super quiet corner! We loved it and hope to stay there during our next business trip! Totally...

Staying in Trastevere

Neighbourhood Profile
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Residenza San Calisto ( previously know Residenza Santa Maria), is a small exclusive Hotel de charme, located I the heart of Rome, just a stone's from the magnificent and picturesque square of Santa Maria in Trastevere. This boutique Hotel is the result of the skilful restoration of a 17th century building. The whole house is dominated by brick arches, wooden ceilings, artistic hand painted frescos and wall decorations which give to the Residenza Santa Maria an atmosphere of refined elegance. With only 6 rooms, the Residenza Santa Maria is somewhat smaller than its namesake which allows for even greater atmosphere, notwithstanding the fact that having only recently opened it is also equipped with high tech environment. The large and quite, no smoking, rooms, some of which family rooms, are fully equipped with private bathroom with tub and shower, A/C, telephone, mini-bar, safe, satellite flat panel TVs, free internet connection, boiler for tea/coffee and other amenities. In the breakfast room, once a Roman cistern of the II cen. BC, decorated by original ancient Roman artifacts found on site during restoration of the building, guests can enjoy a rich and delicious buffet breakfast, (scramble or boiled eggs, ham, cheese, salami, fresh bread, assortment of biscuits, cakes, fresh fruits, yogurt, fresh croissants, selection of fruit juices etc.). Thanks to great location, from the Residenza Santa Maria, guests can easily reach the main tourist sites like Campo de' Fiori, Navona Square, the Pantheon, Spanish Steps, Trevi's fountain, the Roman Forum and Coliseum with just a relaxing stroll through a maze of fascinating medieval streets. The Vatican Museum/Sistine Chapel and St Peter's Square are a few minutes away. Furthermore Trastevere, apart from the beauty of its mediaeval narrow little streets, is filled with typical restaurants, markets, pubs and cafes. The Residenza Santa Maria also offers services like transfer to and from the airport, private guided tours, laundry service, shiatsu massage, beauty centre, baby sitting service and car and scooter hire, as well as offering free use of bikes to its personal guests. ... more   less
