A few days in Rome we booked again with Funny Place, the location is perfect for the termini and walking the many great places in Rome. As ever the reception was warm and friendly. Nothing is too much trouble for Eric, Marabi and Johnny who run the establishment. If we had a quire about how to get to places or...

You're a bit worried when you discover that the reception is located in a shabby looking lavatory/internet point, but it turns out the rooms, apparently converted flats, are located in another building. The rooms are okay, although the beds are a bit too close to each other. The bathroom is functional and there is aa safe. Breakfast is just a...

I stayed at Funny Palace with 5 friends - we were visiting Rome for a conference at Sapienza University (15/20 mins walk away). The check - in is actually in a internet cafe/launderette, which was a bit unusual, and the a4 printed sign stuck in the window did not fill me with confidence. However, once we went it and started...

The hostel is right near the termini metro station which is perfect for getting a start to your day. small discount at a food joint nearby (food was average) and a free breakfast at a cafe near them as well (coffee or juice and croissant). Beds were clean and room had a television. Downsides were the walls are super thin,...

Wow! We don't even know where to start. Both of us travel frequently and have each been to a lot of hostels alone and together (100+) but this is by far one of the best! We were greeted by Jonny who set us up with a map for the next three days, marking restaurants (check out Andrea's!), prices, tips and...

I stayed at Funny Palace last week and would definitely recommend it as it is run by people who go the extra mile to make sure you have a good stay. I loved the whole system - checking in at the launderette with it's computer screens, maps and chatter, and being given vouchers for an evening meal and breakfast. The local...

Loved not having bunks, instead individual beds. bathroom clean and towels provided. Lilly, who met us on arrival was friendly and gave us many suggestions for our 2 day stay. We were able to store our bags after check out too which was fabulous. Breakfast was good and just around the corner. No large lockers for bags just a safe...

Okay, this place is really close to the main train station so I called and asked if they had a "double" room for my wife and I. The very friendly Eritrean woman running the place said they did so we walked over there. There's no sign saying "funny palace" or anything like that… Just some black dude standing in front...

I was really looking forward to staying in this place, but did not make it past the door! Recently went to Rome on a sporting trip. My teammates and I all booked separately and at different times, as some of us where traveling with family members to make a holiday out of it. I personally was travelling with my sister,...

I've spent a few days in Rome and Funny Palace Hostel was absolutely good choice. The room was clean, towels and liens were provided. Eric (the owner) is very helpful. What is also important hostel is located in walking distance from Termini Station and it's relatively cheap.

Staying in Esquilino

Neighbourhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
