My husband, 17 year old daughter and I stayed here for 4 days before going on a cruise. I had stayed in Rome before in a much busier location, and really wanted a quieter place away from the congestion of the city. The Villa San Pio was perfect. I can only add to what others have said: beautiful neighborhood, wonderful...

We found the San Pio a very pleasant hotel. The room, while quite small, was comfortable and clean. Breakfast was served in a conservatory annexed to the hotel with a view over an small, but attractive courtyard garden. Breakfast food was simple, but excellent and it was great to be able to get a good Cappuccino brought to your table....

Booking here was tricky. Two days were done with hotels.com and two days were with rome.by. Rome.by only had two days, and hotels.com prices were almost double the rate. The hotel gave us a small room because they said that our rate was cheap with rome.by so ignored the $333.34 a night with hotels.com on the other two days. Beware...

My boyfriend and I spent five lovely days in Villa San Pio. This romantic hotel is located in a quiet part of Rome but it is only a short walk to Colosseum, Foro Romano, Giannicolo and other historic attractions. The room we were given was large, clean, nicely decorated and had a huge terrace, where we often enjoyed a evening...

What a fabulous small hotel in the middle of Rome only 5 minutes from the Circus Maximus (where Genesis were playing a free concert) and 10 minutes walk from the Colosseum. We travelled with our 4 children si had 2 triple rooms which were very spacious and comfortable and a complete sanctuary from the soaring Roman heat. The staff could...

On the sidewalk wall in front of the hotel is a sign; "One of the most romantic hotels of the world." Believe it. Our room for four was one floor above street level at the back corner overlooking the garden. It came with a patio larger than our room. Most every afternoon of our four-day stay was spent on the...

Wow!! We stayed here 3 nights with 9 people in 4 rooms. All of our rooms were amazing, large, clean with fantastic bathrooms and they weren't even the best rooms in the hotel! My daughter went a month before us and asked to see the 4 rooms and was shown all 4 rooms (not the rooms that we ended up...

We stayed here for the Rome part of our honeymoon and this was our favorite hotel by far. The staff are very friendly, the location is perfect to get away from the noise and traffic, our room was huge and very nicely furnished. Breakfast buffet (buy this with your room rate) had something to please everyone. The coffee is out...

This hotel is beautiful-quietly tucked away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Rome. The rooms were decorated with large antique pieces and our room had a beautiful view of the Aventine Hill while our daughter’s room had a spectacular view of downtown Rome. The staff is helpful, friendly and ready to recommend restaurants and aid with directions. The Aventine...

What a find! This hotel was the perfect retreat after a day in the bustling city of Rome. The location is perfect - a 15 minute walk from the Colloseum and Palatine Hill. The hotel staff could not have been more helpful and spoke perfect English - were also gracious in suffering my pigeon Italian! The rooms were large and...

Staying in Aventine

Neighbourhood Profile
Contrary to the chaos of the city, the Aventine is Rome’s oasis. A neighbourhood made up of a patchwork of ancient churches, hidden gardens, private homes and embassies, peace and quiet is top priority and the vibe definitely friends and family. Take a walk around the Aventine and you’ll find a treasure hunt of surprises like the clever little keyhole at the Knights of Malta entrance (the only place you’ll find a line) along with Parco Savello (Giardino degli Aranci) next to the ancient Santa Sabina church. Keep your eyes on the 1960s architecture, several modern buildings are built atop Rome’s original 4th century BC wall.
