The hotel is next to St Peter's Square and has a beautiful balcony where you may sit & relax that overlooks the Vatican itself. It is quite simply a stunning location and exciting place to be! The room I had was on a budget so it was small but adequate for my needs. I did not eat in the hotel...

This hotel is indeed the ultimate hotel when staying in Rome and your intinery involves the Vatican, St. peters Square, St. Peters Basilica, the Sistine Chapel. The hotel also can provide you with tickets for the Papal Audience which takes place on Wednesday morning, just send them an email to request them. This hotel is a nice average hotel. The location (right in St Peter's square) is perfect and you are able to walk everywhere or take the metro to see all the sites. The room itself is basic and minimal but clean. The decor is quite traditional and quite old looking. Breakfast is quite small unfortunately and the location of the...

This hotel has the ultimate location to St. Peter's Square and the Vatican. It will take you 15 seconds, assuming you walk slow, to reach St. Peter's Square once you walk out the front door. The staff, security, rooms and view from the deck are exceptional. This is a great hotel for anyone interested in visiting the Vatican. We enjoyed...

This hotel ticks all the boxes. We stayed there for six nights. Our room was the Bramante room which was beautifully clean and comfortable. There were toiletries and lovely towels. There was space outside our room for my husband's travel scooter. It was looking on to a courtyard so very peaceful. The staff were so pleasant and friendly. Nothing was...

Visited with my wife. As ever - an elegant, comfortable hotel. Friendly and efficient multi -lingual staff. Unbeatable place to stay - literally cross the street to St peter's square. As mentioned previously this building used to be an Augustinian monastery. Immaculately re constructed. It's peaceful, restful and quiet. Entry by a small courtyard. Ground floor is the Philippine Embassy....

Stayed at this hotel on a one night whirlwind in Rome with my father and sister and couldn't have been more pleased. We drive into Rome from Tuscany which was easier than I thought especially since the hotel is on the outskirts of the city and therefore did not encounter and ZTL zones. Also a parking garage a short distance...

I am so grateful that I chose this hotel. When I made my choice it was due to the recommendation of Joan Lewis from EWTN and the location I saw on the map. The entrance to St Peter Square is a just 10 meters away. Why I will return will be because of the people who work there. First Class...

Staying in Vatican / Borgo

Neighbourhood Profile
Vatican / Borgo
Frocked priests, colorful Swiss Guards, insistent souvenir shop owners, flag-waving tour guides, and pilgrims from around the world. This is the Vatican and Borgo, Rome's most recognized neighbourhood which acts as Vatican City's front yard. Aside from the souvenir boutiques and a few food spots, the only business conducted here is papal. In the daytime, the tiny medieval sector bustles with holy activity, as visitors vie for elbow room, or stand in line for a visit. Once the sun sets, the neighbourhood is transformed into a quiet and picturesque hamlet.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Residenza Paolo VI, established on the premises of an Augustinian Monastery, was inaugurated at the beginning of the Holy Year 2000. The genius loci and the charm of tradition, still alive in its ancient walls, make this property your "private" haven in Rome, far away from chaos, in the pulsing heart of the Eternal City. Rome has many hotels, but only one of them is located directly on St. Peter's Square (Vatican): Residenza Paolo VI, the ideal place for those wishing to stay in the heart of Christendom, close to St. Peter's Basilica, the Vatican Grottoes, the Necropolis, St Peter's and Saint John Paul II's tombs, the Vatican Gardens and St. Angel's Castle. Walking along the Vatican Wall, it's easy to reach the Vatican Museums and visit the famous Sistine Chapel. Furthermore, some of our rooms offer special view of the Holy Office or of the internal courtyard of the ancient monastery or even of St. Peter's Dome. From our magnificent Terrace it is possible to admire up close St. Peter's Basilica and the Apostolic Palace, exactly where the Holy Father Pope Francis appears to bless the faithful and to recite the Sunday Angelus. ... more   less
