well maintained accommodation in a peaceful area surrounded by the picturesque streets of Trastavere. staff were efficient and helpful, breakfast was well presented with plenty to choose from. the room we had was great exept I found the lighting a little gloomy, great bathroom & very clean. I would certainly recommend it to anyone going to Rome. If you are...

Once we found the hotel (get a cab from termini station - well worth 13 euros! as the buses can be confusing) it was above average. The hotel is very well positioned, trastevere is beautiful and lively and it only takes 20 minutes to walk to colessium and not much further to St Peters. Make sure you Walk up the...

My Husband and I have just returned January 2005 (4 nights) from Rome and a wonderful stay at the Hotel San Francesco. The hotel staff are both friendly and helpful and nothing was a problem. We easily found our way around the city and the Trastevere area, the electric bus outside the hotel door was a just great for our...

We, three friends, stayed in Hotel San Francesco in Trastevere, Rome, Italy and we had a wonderful time. The hotel is in a great location with lots of nice restaurants and bars closeby. The rooms were a good size and the bathroom was clean and big enough for the three of us. Breakfast was good - don't expect a big...

Being a frequent traveller I'm very picky when it comes to hotels, but this one is outstanding good. In the middle of a lively center (Trastevere) but still a quite place. The decoration is very stylish and state of the art. 2 things impressed me most: the breakfast and the service. The breakfast room is an absolute highlight facing the...

We had a wonderful stay at Hotel San Francesco. The hotel has a great location in Trestevere- we could walk to dinner at a different restaurant every night. We loved enjoying a glass of wine on the roof terrace, watching the sunset...even in January it was warm enough to be up there. People at the front desk were wonderful about...

Another hotel which was booked recommended this hotel to us, and I am so grateful. I can't say enough about how kind and hospitable the hotel staff was. The decor was lovely- a mix of modern and traditional. The rooms were simple but sparkling clean and comfortable. The bathroom was quite large. My husband's favorite part was that the hotel...

We stayed at Hotel SF for 4 nights over New Years. It was a wonderful experience from the moment we stepped in the door. The Trastevere is a great area, great restaurants and plenty of very quaint, cute streets to explore. We loved the walk to all the sights (max 40). The Hotel itself was fantastic. The spread in the...

The staff were welcoming from the start and were very helpful throughout our stay. They created a very friendly and relaxed atmosphere that's too often lacking...

Staying in Trastevere

Neighbourhood Profile
Trastevere
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
