We stayed here 28th July for 3 nights and what a great time we had. The welcome was warm, the room was cool and the roof top bar gave us a view that made us smile. We even stayed in touch with our kids via e-mail using the free internet use in the lobby! We walked to the Vatican and...

We booked this hotel based on recommendations from this website and were slightly disppointed as we were expecting something fantastic. The hotel is good but not as great as some people made out. However, this was our first stay in Rome and we would come back to this hotel. The room and hotel were very clean but no-one mentioned you...

This is a great hotel in a great location. If you stay in Rome, I highly recommend the Trastavere. You'll spend plenty of time at the Forum, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, etc. during the day. Why not dine and stay in "authentic" Rome? The roofdeck is the perfect location for a drink before wandering out to one of the many...

With the dizzying number of hotel choices in Rome, I had a difficult time deciding on THE place to stay for the last 3 nights of our honeymoon. My husband kept thanking me for choosing San Francesco. It is nicely furnished and clean, with a friendly and hardworking staff, and has a peaceful atmosphere that is highly uncharacteristic for one...

We have just returned from a wonderful long weekend in Rome, made especially good by staying at this charming hotel. Everything about it was perfect (and I confess I am a very fussy traveller!). We stayed in Room 106 which was a corner room with a gorgeous view over the peach trees into the convent courtyard. The bathroom is very...

The Hotel San Francesco lived up to its great reviews and was an overall excellent choice. Our room was small but the high ceilings and large bathroom compensated. The breakfast was delicious and served in a beautiful room and the staff was helpful. We also loved being in the Trastevere area.

We spent two nights at this cozy and comfortable hotel in May. The staff couldn't have been nicer and answered a multitude of questions. The breakfast buffet was also superb and we ended up spending twice as much time eating breakfast as we expected. The location is great for walking to many of the major attractions. The free Internet access...

First visit to Rome and using this website actually planned to stay at another hotel. They were full but recommended a couple of others of the same standard in Trastevere. The Hotel San Francesco was quite a find. Was warned about tiny rooms in Rome but the one we had was lovely, cool, great and good decoration. The bathroom was...

We have just returned home after spending 5 nights in the Hotel San Francesco. Daniele the General Manager very kindly arranged for a taxi to meet us at the airport which made the journey so much more pleasant. Despite our plane being delayed 50 minutes the driver was waiting for us. The hotel was as others have written in previous...

the san francesco was the ideal spot for exploring rome, i passed most of the other hotels we had considered and silently praised the lord that we had chose the the right one; a tranquil setting, not overrun with crowds of tourists on your doorstep, a cool area for wandering around during the evening, some great restaurants and bars and...

Staying in Trastevere

Neighbourhood Profile
Trastevere
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
