Stayed three nights (4/1-4/4) in this lovely hotel. Quiet, safe and convenient where the historical sites and great restaurants are all within reach. The only complain I have is the map that we got from the reception was rather vague, therefore navigating our way became challenging at times. All in all, Love, love, love this hotel.

Had a great stay at the Hotel Santa Maria in March 2017. Room was nice, clean and comfortable. Great breakfast and great Happy Hour Buffet every day. The staff were fabulous. Had a major problem with a flight and Malina was on the phone for close to an hour to resolve the problem for us. Specials thanks to Malina!!!! The...

Booked this on the trip advisor reviews & so glad I followed them. Fantastic base to explore Rome, lovely setting, good accommodation & friendly staff. Would not hesitate to recommend it. All of Rome's main attractions a reasonable walk away & the tightly packed streets add character & reasonable restaurants for the evening. Has an understated sophistication & is a...

We didn't really have any expectations of what we'd find at Hotel Santa Maria - we'd never stayed on the "other side of the river" before, and weren't sure if we'd like it. So we were wonderfully surprised to find an amazing little oasis in the middle of an incredibly lively and exciting neighbourhood. One of the absolutely highlights of...

We stayed for 3 nights, had the suite for 4 which was perfect for our family, a double room with a separate room for our boys with a bunk bed. Beautiful garden shaded by orange trees and a roof terrace too. Very friendly staff, great location, comfortable rooms, good breakfast plus happy hour between 5-30 and 7-30 pm means if...

A charming little hotel on the heart of Trestavere. It's beautiful gardens and quiet, private location provides a welcome oasis from busy Rome. Our room was quite basic, but well appointed with plenty of room. The highlight was that the rooms were situated around the central orange grove, with plenty of tables and chairs to sit down and relax at....

Extraordinary find. A conversion of mainly single-storey rooms opening onto orange tree lined gardens. The hotel is totally enclosed by ordinary flats in a charming, organic, mish-mash; you feel part of the neighborhood but still very private. Very quiet and very comfortable, and so convenient for everything. It's in the centre of Trastevere so the Vatican, the Forum, Pantheon, Trevi...

This time in Trastevere we stayed in Hotel Santa Maria instead of an apartment and really enjoyed the hospitality of this hotel. Easy booking and communication process and everything is as advertised. Easy to get to from airport, train to Trastevere and then #8 tram to the Tiber river and walk left through the restaurant area to the square where...

Not much to add to other positive reviews of this hotel: peaceful position in heart of Trastevere; small but comfortable double room with great bed, bathroom and plenty of storage; delightful orangery garden and sun terrace etc; plentiful breakfast; wonderful helpful staff at reception; overall a charming intimate hotel with lots of character. Location good for exploring Rome, with many...

This hotel is a fabulous place to stay. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. It's tucked away in the cobbled side streets of Trastevere, where there are wonderful restaurants that aren't touristy and used by locals also. From here you can walk to all the main attractions of Rome and Trastevere itself is worth exploring too. After a...

Staying in Trastevere

Neighbourhood Profile
Trastevere
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
