You can't beat the location for touring historic Rome on foot. You return to a wonderful neighborhood with small shops and restaurants. Behind the gates of the hotel there is real solitude, something difficult to find in a large hotel in Rome. The rooms are simple and immaculate. An excellent breakfast, served outside under orange trees in the summer. Bicycles...

My wife and I just returned from an exciting week in the «Eternal City» - and the exquisite and charming Hotel Santa Maria in Trastevere.
A perfect location, an extremely helpful and friendly staff, the comfortable room (number 20), the excellent breakfast buffet and the great courtyard under the orange trees made our stay a most memorable one.

The Hotel Santa Maria is a lovely environment with open space available to all, and a small, comfortable feeling. It is a cloister in the middle of a busy section of a busy city, behind a locked gate. Staff are very pleasant and helpful. Morning breakfast and afternoon wine. Comfortable rooms with good bathrooms and wireless throughout. I love Trastevere...

Centrally located in the restaurant district (Trastevere), the hotel is within 20-30 mn walk of all major tourist sites. Rooms are excellent value. Price includes a fresh breakfast and complementary buffet in the evening. I couldn't connect my wifi device to the hotel server (no explanation), but a computer with free access is available. Remember to bring earplugs: this is...

We just returned from spending a week in Rome. The Hotel Santa Maria was the perfect location with only a short walk to all of Rome's sites. Stepping out of the hotel's front gate into the historic Trastevere area transports you back into an earlier time with the beauty of Rome around every corner. We highly recommend this wonderful Hotel.

This place was incredible. We stayed at some fancier hotels in Italy, but nothing compared to this one. It was laid-back, the staff was extremely helpful and accommodating and the location was perfect! Throughout our travels in Italy, everywhere we stayed had hard mattresses, this place had a bed that was more comfortable than my bed at home! They have...

My wife and I recently stayed 6 nights prior to joining a cruise. This is a charming hotel in the Trestavere area of Rome. Quiet, serene and welcoming with a courtyard of orange trees, excellent breakfast buffet and evening hor d'ouervres. The staff is friendly and responsive to your needs. Located a short walk to Piazza Santa Maria and the...

We stayed for 3 nights at this beautiful property. The location is perfect, as you can walk to all of the interesting sites, then come back in the evening and have your choice of dozens of great restaurants. Our room was very large, with a separate front room that also had a television and extra bed; there was also a...

We very much enjoyed our 5 nights in November 2011. Terrific breakfast to start each day before setting out to walk to all the sites in Rome. The Trastevere section of Rome has many great restaurants. We enjoyed the bells of the nearby church ringing the time every 15 minutes. We will surely come back.

Staying in Trastevere

Neighbourhood Profile
Trastevere
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
