The hotel itself was satisfactory. The bed was two twins pulled together, each with extremely hard mattresses. I slept fine, but my boyfriend did not. Clean room, quiet hotel. The staff was not rude, although they were not exceedingly friendly either. Breakfast consisted of cereal, ham, cheese, bread, canned fruit (not happy about that one), water and juice (not fresh)....

The Hotel des Artiste is a warm, non pretentious spot to park yourself in Rome. It is a less then 10minute walk to Termini station- which is handy if you land at Fiumicino airport as a train goes direct to Termini from there. I believe there is a metro station nearby but I never used it. As this was my...

We stayed at the hotel at the end of November 2004. The room was large, well decorated and cleaned excellently on a daily basis. For the price (we paid about 60 euros per night for a double room) this hotel was excellent. Breakfast was included, and consisted of cereal, cheese, ham, rolls and french pastries. The hotel was down a...

The accommodation just does not reflect that shown in the website. It is shabby genteel, and not very roomy. They are quite happy to sell you a "family room" for five and cram extra beds into a space designed for not more than three. Their cancellation policy stinks, too - we gave them notice "72 hours before arrival time" (their...

This hotel is very well situated a few blocks from termini station so it is easy to walk there. The check in is on the fifth floor and there is a very tiny elevator to help you and your luggage on your way. There is a hostel and a hotel here with the facilities spread between two buildings. We stayed...

We got into Rome at about 10:00 at night and Hotel Des Artists had given our room away! I had made reservations several weeks earlier and had a copy of our confirmation page, to no avail. The staff sent us to another hotel called the "Discovery Hotel" that was suppose to have the same amentities as advertised by Des Artists....

I've stayed in Rome twice before. This time I stayed in a double Annex room at Hotel Des Artistes and was very happy with the place. The room was clean, and the bathroom was a good size with thick western towels (usually Italian hotels have paper thin sheets to dry yourself with) and nice and clean! Usually Roman hotel bathrooms...

We had a wonderful time at this hotel. We stayed in the annex and in the main hotel, in each area the rooms were small yet very comfortable, well maintained, and clean. And as other reviewers have indicated, the elevator was small, but it was quite manageable. The staff was friendly to us throughout our stay, answering all questions we...

We have just spent 3 nights (23-26.10.2006) at this Hotel. The Hotel is a 10 min walk from the main Terminal Station in Rome and don't believe all the hype that this is not a safe area. It is busy all day and night with people bars and Resturants everywhere. Its more dangerous in London. Rome is safe but do...

Spent 1 night in the hostel (not hotel) at the end of a trip. Wanted somewhere near to Termini so location was ideal. I was too exhausted to do much exploring of the rest of the neightbourhood, but there seemed to be a few bars and restaurants, and decent bus and metro links to the rest of the city. Free...

Staying in Esquilino

Neighbourhood Profile
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
