Small, but great Hotel to stay in. Great location. Newly decorated rooms and window opens up to welcome the fresh air in. Carrefour supermarket just diagonally opposite and great to get water and necessities. Everything inside our hotel room was relatively new. A comfortable stay. Free internet. Breakfast, though not continental, has a special feel to it. Loved the potato pie...

We did a post and pre hotel stay at Hotel Sonya. We loved this little "botique" hotel. The location was great, right across from the Opera House. It was within walking distance of Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, close to the underground. We had a nice choice of places to eat within walking distance. We arrived early in the day (8:00a.m.),...

When we arrived, we were told that our room was down the street -- while small, the room was clean and comfortable. Free Internet worked nicely, the hotel loaned us a laptop for our airline check-in, the beds were comfortable and the shower was great. The staff, especially Simonne, was quite helpful and friendly. Close to the airport shuttle which...

We picked Hotel Sonya after reading reviews on this site and it delivered - we preferred a hotel close to Termini as we knew after our long flight that we would want to walk there quick and start to explore the city. From check-in to check-out the experience was as good as it gets. The entire staff treated us and...

My wife and I spent 4 nights in the Hotel Sonya and were thoroughly pleased with our stay there. The location was perfect for us, since it is very close to the Roma Termini station (easy walk) and in a safe neighborhood. The room was clean and comfortable and the service was great - they had even arranged an advance...

Staying in Esquilino

Neighbourhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
