Just returned from a wonderful 4 day break in beautiful Rome. The Donatello is a lovely little budget hotel in a good location. The tram stop is a 1 minute walk away with the No.3 tram taking you straight to the Colosseum. The Metro (Manzoni Station) is a 5-10 minute walk away with connections all over Rome. The hotel was...

We went with our daughter and my brother with spouses, stayed March 26- April 2, 2017. Everything was exceptional. The rooms were what we expected, being in Europe before. The staff is outstanding. Close to metro and great restaurants close. Off the beaten path, but worth it.

Our stay here was great. The room was nice and clean. A little small but didn't bother us. The bathroom was average size but not too small. We got a room with a balcony which was a nice addition, nice to sit on for a dinner or coffee in the morning. You could hear the street below at night but...

I wanted an inexpensive but comfortable hotel within walking distance of many of Rome's most interesting historic sites. Hotel Donatello certainly met that standard. The room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was beautifully served and delicious. The location was very convenient. A trolley stop is just steps away, and the metro just a few blocks. My wife, daughter and...

We came here in the off-season as part of a BA deal. There's nothing particularly special about the Donatello, it's pretty convenient for the metro or walking to a lot of the sites. The staff were friendly and helpful, the room was clean, the bathroom small but still clean. For the price can't fault it.

The hotel is situated in quite a convenient area and the hotel staff were extremely helpful during our whole stay. The main problem was that our room and the bathroom were very tiny. In the bathroom the basin and toilet were so close together you had to wriggle in to the space and sit on the toilet sideways. Interesting experience....

Close to underground trains, Termini rail station, and within walking distance to the Colosseum and surrounding Roman ruins. The room was a reasonable price, clean, and inviting, and quiet considering the location. Staff were very helpful and accommodating. Each morning the gentleman on the front desk would help me plan my day and advice what was a 'must see' and...

Staying in Esquilino

Neighbourhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
