Made a reservation at a promotional 5% discounted rate. Received an email suggesting this promo rate was not available then hours later received a confirmation for the regular rate. Also . . . in my reservation request . . . I requested a room in the new section of the hotel as suggested by others and found out upon arrival...

Great hotel and great views from the top terrace where breakfast was served and Happy Hour in the afternoons. Very helpful and accommodating to visitors. We were just a few blocks from the train station and across from one of the historical churches, San Maria Maggiore. The views from the terrace at night was worth the stay. Breakfast was sufficient...

We arrived at this hotel after a short and fairly dicey walk from the train station. The Mecenate Palace is just on the edge of the dodgy Termini area so when you cross the road to the hotel it's fine but before that I was holding onto my luggage very tightly! Our room overlooked the Santa Maria Maggiore Church which...

We stayed here for 2 nights recently. We had a lovely room with a view of the Square. Despite the traffic outside, it wasnt that noisy. (I am a fussy person about noise but I slept both nights no problem. It was HOT when we were in Rome and the AC worked perfectly while we were there. At night it...

Hotel staff very informative and helpful. We stayed in deluxe rooms and they were very nice. The view of the church was spectacular. Pay no attention to the negative reviews on this site, I don't know what some people are used to but the room my husband & I shared was more than adequate as was the room our friends...

We were greeted by friendly staff and shown to our room which was number 421 overlooking the Bastile Santa Maria Mangalore chapel. The room was sufficient for our 7 night stay. The bathroom was good size with double wash bowl and seperate toilet and shower over the bath was good. No bottles of water provided for free but the water...

Having trawled the internet to find a hotel that met everything we were looking for, I booked 3 double rooms at the Mecenate Palace Hotel for 6 days between 30th May and 4th June 2010. I could not have chosen a better hotel than this. We upgraded to Deluxe Rooms with views overlooking the Basilica Maria Maggiore as the Pope...

Stayed here for 6 nights and worked out great. Was a bit suspicious when we got a first floor room by the lift overlooking the street, but had good sound-proofing and air-con worked fine so no problem at all. Breakfast is the usual continental - rolls / ham / cheese / toast, though you can pay extra for bacon &...

We booked this hotel months ago and prepaid through Hotels.com. When we arrived at the hotel we were told there was a problem with our reservation. I showed them the confirmation letter. Staying in Esquilino

Neighbourhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
