Nice hotel in the heart of the city. Very convenient to Roma Termini train station. Well appointed room, and good staff. Overall an excellent place for a short visit to Rome. I only stay one night, so I cannot comment on the value of the place for a longer stay. However, I cannot say why it would not be a...

Can't wait to come back here! We had a late arrival at the hotel and found out the roof-top restaurant/bar was open till 11. The view was spectacular! In the darkness of night, the Basilica Papale di Santa Maria Maggiore radiated with majestic glory. We couldn't leave this place it was so beautiful, so we sat down for dinner. It...

The hotel has a great location. As is common in Europe the hotel is old. The rooms are small but adequate with comfortable beds and clean bathrooms. We arrived early and were greeted with a smile and good service. We would stay again.

Location - Perfect. It is central and within a ten minute walk of most major points of interest. The Vatican is a 15 euro taxi ride. It looks out over the Basilica Santa Maria Maggiore, which is an added treat. Staff - They are just the best. Friendly, helpful, couldn't want for better. Free Wifi - Fast, reliable, 24/7. I...

We stayed here for two nights back in September. The hotel isn't modern which is fine, but a bit too old fashioned. The rooftop was lovely however drinks were overpriced and we got charged for items we didn't have, could understand if it was busy but we were the only couple there. We were toying with having dinner there but...

This hotel is interesting, not a modern hotel, we stayed 3 nights and didn't have no problem. Staff was very friendly and helpful, room was comfortable enough with tea making facilities. Breakfast was good, and well presented in the roof terrace. The hotel is centrally located. It is ok for a few days stay in Rome.

This is the perfect place to stay in Rome for Family or for Couples. Location is perfect as the hotel is right next to the Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore and it is a few blocks away from the Metro (train) Station. Rooftop offers good view of the city. And free wifi is also available at the whole hotel. If...

Two of us had checked in for 3 nights to this hotel in mid October. Nothing was special at the beginning; old smelly carpets everywhere, strong smell of newly used cleaning supplies in small sized room we've booked, friendly staff, ordinary breakfast in the restaurant that located on the roof of the hotel, etc. However, next day, once I started...

On the recommendation from close friends who have stayed at this hotel on several occasions, we checked in for a one night stay in August 2016. We were shown to our 'Executive Room' which was located up a flight of steps in another building down the road from the main hotel. When we initially viewed the hotel on their website...

We have stayed at the Mecenate several times, and it never disappoints us. It has a good location, close to Termini, in an ever-improving neighborhood. The rooms are very nice, extremely clean, the staff is lovely. The view from the top terrace is great, a wonderful spot for Happy Hour. We love the food (breakfast buffet is exceptional). It feels...

Staying in Esquilino

Neighbourhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
