+ extremely helpful staff + spacious rooms + central location - rooms a bit outdated I can understand the discussion on whether this is a 4 star or not, but I paid 60/night (including breakfast) and felt that was great value.

I think this is supposed to be a 4-star-hotel, but they must be different stars from what I'm used to. The overall tone of the place is more like a 2-star B&B, all the facilities are small and run-down and rather grubby, and in no way luxurious or impressive, quite the opposite in fact. And the worst was the room,...

My family went to Italy on vacation and our last night in Rome was spent at the Rex hotel. The hotel is nice but somewhat outdated. The rooms are quite and the beds are comfortable. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The location is ideal close to Termini station and walking distance to many major attractions. The price is...

The hotel staff are very polite and helpful and speak good English. The rooms would benefit from a bit of a refurb but they are very clean and the maid services them daily providing clean towels each day. The bed was very comfortable and the breakfast was ample with a good range of cereals, pastries, cold meats and fruit. Ample...

We stayed in hotel Rex a couple of years ago, payed around €90 in june, with an expedia promo. Great location, walking distance to the train station (about 10 mins with lugagge), rooms were big, breakfast was Ok, service was friendly (they had maps and helped us to locate the places we wanted to visit). We actually walked from here...

This hotel is in a convenient location to Railway station and also to important tourist attractions. This hotel is a fixer upper overdue for renovation. The mattress was caving in when you lie down on it and the toilet flush barely worked properly. The light switch panels were falling apart when you touch it. Once you cross the lobby you...

After a long day of travel I reached the front desk of the Hotel and placed my bags directly infant of me. While checking in with the clerk, the Manager, Emmanuel approached me from my left side seemingly welcoming me to the Hotel. Another man was on my right who appeared to be waiting for someone. Because I had reached...

Mr. Bunting, it is an unpleasant surprise to read your unfair review. By my side, I reserve the right to reply with frankness here on TripAdvisor and there will be for sure the occasion to proceed by legal means as well. You didn’t mention that you arrived with a taxi and, being almost drunk, you fell down the entrance of...

This hotel is in an excellent location being only a couple of minutes walk from the Metro. Many of the sites are in walking distance. The hotel is slightly tired but the bedrooms are of a good size and clean. The shower was rather old but worked ok. The breakfast was ok. Cereals, fruit and ham and toast and croissants....

Having booked the Hotel Rex, I was a bit anxious when I read some of the reviews on TripAdvisor. However, our experience was a very positive one. The location is great - near the Termini and 10-20 min walk away from most of the key attractions. We were given a family room facing out the side of the hotel. It...

Very well located however this is not a 4 star hotel. No hot water in the bathroom. Doors to the corridor are thin so you can hear a lot during the night. Could not use the safe. Overrated hotel and very pricey for what you get. Wouldn't recommend

Staying in Esquilino

Neighbourhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
