Nothing worked and that isnt an exaggeration. Internet - doesnt work. Jacuzzi - doesn't work. Sauna-door broken so it doesn't work. Phone-doesnt work. Hot water-doesnt work. We had to get 2 visits from a plumber to reset the boiler to get hot water. This meant not being able to shower one evening, and then one morning having to go out again without being able to shower. We were told the sauna door was broken the morning of our arrival, and would be fixed on the Monday- it was never fixed and we never heard anything else about it. There are lots of other things that need fixed. There is a plug in the bedroom that needs reattached to the wall. The button to flush the toilet is broken-it works but it needs replaced. It's especially annoying there are so many problems because it could and should be a really nice stay but is completely let down by things that don't work and things that need fixed. On the positive side -the bed is nice and the TV and AC actually work! Breakfast is also quite good-although one morning we got a cappuccino with no sugar (especially in Italy?!) and another morning I was given a flavoured yoghurt with my cereal when I had natural for the previous days - and of course it was a flavour I didn't like and couldn't eat. The location is also excellent. Although I'm not sure why some of the reviews say it's very quiet-we stayed over the weekend and Saturday night was extremely noisy. This is absolutely nothing against Carten but just something to be aware of. We also luckily double checked that the taxi we requested when we checked in was booked for the morning we left. It, of course, was not already booked and if we hadnt checked we would have been late for our flight home. I hope whoever reads this takes this seriously and doesn't think that I am being fussy or complaining about nothing. I have never even come close to leaving a review like this before and I genuinely wanted it to be good so it is a real shame there are so many issues. Carten did refund a nights stay from the bill and provided a bottle of prosecco for the sauna being broken but it's the sheer number of problems that there are that didnt really give me any option but to give them 1 star.

I wish I could give this "hotel" a zero. They should be sued for misrepresentation. Me and my partner arrived at this "hotel" on 6th of October for my birthday, and we were "greeted" by an incredibly rude receptionist, who told us we cannot check-in for another 40 minutes, and told us to leave the "reception" and come back at 2PM. When we returned, we were told that we won't actually be staying in this hotel, but will have to go to a "sister hotel", 2 mins walk away from the premises. The receptionist took pictures of our passports which was very strange - never had a passport picture taken with a phone at a hotel. Once we left, a man approached us and grabbed my suitcase and started walking without saying a word. We had to follow him without knowing where we're going. At this stage I was starting to get furious about the whole experience. With our suitcases it took us 9 minutes to walk to a completely different building, which seemed to host a variety of offices. It was not a residential building, let alone a hotel. I have attached a picture of the location of this "sister" hotel. The man dropped my suitcase which contained fragile items (luckily nothing broke), however he didn't apologise or said anything at all. The "apartment block", or more of an office block seemed to be really old and in a bad shape, with a barely working lift. At this stage we felt we are being scammed or even worse. Picture of the apartment entrance hall is attached. When we arrived at the "apartment" / "room", the front door was broken and a handy man was desperately trying to fix the hinges, drilling the door for good half hour. A cleaner was frantically running around. The whole "apartment" had a small "reception" and one room in it. I use quotation marks to describe these because they don't seem to be an accurate description of an apartment or a reception. I have attached another picture. The man who dragged my suitcase took pictures of our passports again, and sent these to some Whatsapp group. I asked him why is it being done and he said we must be registered with the police. Not sure police shares a Whatsapp group. The said man then asked what time we wanted breakfast and what would we like. We said we wanted scrambled eggs, with a toast, and a coffee with milk. The next morning "breakfast" arrived, which was a cheese [spread] and ham "toastie" with a lukewarm black coffee. When we asked for milk the lady who brought the food didn't understand what we wanted. Eventually, the toasties went in the bin. I attach a picture of this "food". Anyway, back to the arrival. Upon entering the room, we realised there was no sitting / living area as advertised. The room had a street view, and not the view from the actual advertisement. Picture attached. The room was not clean - the walls, curtains, cushions were all dirty. The "sauna" was just a shower with a steam option and a weird bench inside. There was no shower gel available. The shower in this steam room kept dripping at random times. The steam room was so filthy that at this stage I started taking pictures of everything and started compiling a list of items that I will include in my review. See another picture attached. Anyway, we thought we'll give it a go and get into a hot tub. It took probably 45 mins to fill it half way, and when we turned the jets, the smell of rotten eggs filled the room. We immediately jumped out of the tub. I never felt so dirty in my life, I fear of having contracted some sort of infection from just being there. When we tried to empty the tub it never did - it was so clogged of whatever was in there that the water never got drained. We slept with a tub filled with water, which smelt of rotten eggs. It was disgusting. Worst birthday ever. I have stayed in 12 different cities in Italy in my life and this was the worst experience I have ever had. This "hotel" must be avoided at all costs.

Fabulous rooms, staff friendly and helpful. You get everything you need during the stay. Looking forward to stay there again. Very close to Metro station and plenty restaurants nearby. They bring the breakfast to your door in the morning which is great.

We have been there for one night, for the first night of our honeymoon. We have been at Carten Calata San Giacomo. Let's start from the beginning: they knew we were a couple getting married and that we would get there late as we were having our reception party. Someone booked for us the room with breakfast included. Not only did they call on the middle of the party asking us if we could be there at midnight (we got there at 1am, as soon as the party finished), which is annoying enough - so we explained "I'm actually having the party" - but when we arrived we have been told we wouldn't have breakfast (the one we've paid for) and guess what? When we left early in the morning we did see someone making breakfast for other people! Apart from that, the room is overpriced: the bed is the only plus, quite comfy, but the jacuzzi was one meter from the bed, which left us puzzled, and it was so bad in itself that you didn't realise it was on! So at the end of the day you just have a bathtub by the bed. Moreover the view is also disappointing and in a horrible building. We just did not understand how this hotel can be rated more than 2 starts, given the quality of the service and staff. Stay away!

You really want to avoid this place. They promote themselves as a hotel on their website, but they offer a few b&b rooms which you have to access up a metal staircase in a dark backstairs part of the building. The owner eventually got booking.com to give us a refund while demanding 300 euros in cash for the one night we had to stay. I am sure he will declare this income to the tax authorities and to booking.com. Even tripadvisor describes it as a hotel.

After you find the non-descript entrance and buzz upstairs to get through the security door with bars, you then walk down a hallway to your choice of an ancient and small elevator which appears to barely work or walk up several flights of narrow stairs attached to the wall the courtyard. Once inside you are greeted by a small lobby with leftover breakfast items (to be used the next morning?). If you are able to make it down the hall into the room you will see how sooty and dirty the "white" walls of the room are. It's a good thing the floors are dark. There are other better options nearby. Choose those for a pleasant stay in Naples!

Francesca & Napoleon were amazing and personable. Breakfast in bed? Yes! A comfortable memory foam bed and jet tub! Upon my arrival the staff was amazing and helpful, they told me “don’t touch her bags!“ And they carried my heavy bags up the stairs to my room :-) I had just had surgery on my hand and my arm so this was very much appreciated. Napoleon was very attentive in the mornings with breakfast & ensuring your comfort, etc. Netflix in your room directly on the TV is a recipe for never getting out of bed… The owner, Filippo. This is somewhat problematic when it comes to a small B&B. I was given a piece of paper with the names of the two girls that work the front and their phone numbers, as well as that of the owner, Filippo, in the event I needed to reach somebody. Unfortunately, I needed to contact somebody, and nobody was within reach! I have an iPhone, and I can make FaceTime calls and text message to other iPhones. The owner also has an iPhone, so after I messaged all three phone numbers, I sent him another message asking if he could FaceTime me or iMessage me back. The power had gone out in my room in the middle of the night, and I woke up to a small ”pond” in the room. I went the entire night without power into the next morning until about 10 o’clock. I finally got up at 10 to see why nobody had come to my room to help with the problem and learned that nobody knew about it. The owner had not notified anyone nor had he ever reached out to me!! He lives only minutes from the hotel and could have easily stopped by to fix the problem or have called me back on my phone and talked me through the problem, but he did neither. Instead, he hoped that the problem would go away. There was also a tear in the sealant on the door to the terrace (there was very heavy rain that night) which resulted in a “small pond“ in my room as well that morning. I woke up to an absolute mess! The next evening there was nothing I could do about it because the shutters outside could not be closed because there was a rock lodged in the track... my suitcase in all of my things on the floor where entirely soaked. It turned out that a staffer began his shift at 7 o’clock in the morning but was never made aware of the problem even though the owner had read my text message at 5 am! It wasn’t until many many hours later that he would call the front desk and ask the girls if everything was taken care of. Worst of all, he proceeded to explain that I should have called him. Disappointed in the owner, left feeling bummed about this, but liked the staff regardless..

We stayed here for one night on Saturday 19th January. You can easily walk past the entrance, but it is signed up outside so keep your eyes open. The location is fantastic and really central. Everything you’d want to see is close to Carten and there’s loads of restaurants really close by. Everything is accessible on foot from here which is a massive perk. The Accomodation is absolutely spotless. It’s really luxurious and the bed was so comfy. The WiFi for your room is ONLY for your room so it’s not slowed down by anyone else using it. The Netflix access is a bonus after a long day exploring! A really special mention to Francesca and Phillipo for making us feel really welcome and special. I am a blogger, and they allowed me permission to film and take photos in the hotel. They stayed with us and shared two hours of chatting away even though our Italian is non existent. They both really made lots of effort to understand our northern accents!! We slept soundly and even though we were up early Phillip was on hand to make us a gorgeous omelette and toastie before us catching the taxi that they had pre-booked for us to take us back to the airport. I would absolutely, whole-heartedly recommend you stay here if your in Naples. The receptionist that checked us in (I’m sorry I can’t remember her name!) was so helpful with a map and recommended all the things we could see and do in one day. Absolutely fantastic service, great food, and excellent Accomodation. Thank you!! Vikki & Frank (Lea Bella Blogs)

First time to Naples and it was easy enough to find, using the maps. Great hotel staff! Martina was there to recommend us where to go and how to get to places. Fillipo and Francesca, the owners I think, were also extremely helpful whenever we needed help. And also, Nappi, the chef, remembered exactly how we liked our breakfast and coffee every morning! Can’t fault the service. The rooms: it faces the main road, but the double glazed windows proved to block out most of the noise. We weren’t that bothered about it, as we were so tired after the days excursions...we would just nod off! The bathrooms are something to die for! Mood lights, rain shower etc... just an absolute treat! A great little boutique hotel with only 3 rooms, so you don’t have to worry about noise from neighbours. The location is also very central from everywhere. But if you need any directions, the staff would be glad to help. If I were to go back to Naples again, I would defo go back to Carten. 5*s all round! 👍🏼

The hotel cancelled our reservation without notice and rebooked us into a lowly rated sketchy hotel, in an even sketchier area. Completely ruined my trip to Naples. They did not refund my original amount, they only helped rebook me into a new (lower quality) hotel. It was so bad, I had to rebook myself into a new place for the second night. I told them I could pay for the second night at the hotel of my choice myself, I would just like a refund to my original booking which they did not honour.
