What a mind-blowing, haunting and paradoxically beautiful old town--and this is the perfect hotel to experience it from the inside out. This albergo, actually a cluster of small habitations, clings to and buries itself within the short cliffs and caves of this fascinating area. The couple who owns the place are very kind and attentive, as is the small staff,...

Fra i Sassi is at the bottom of the Sasso Barisano, just off the motor road through the sasso. It is possible to reach it by car with just a flight of steps up to the reception area. On foot it is a gentle walk up the road to the top, then a fairly steep flight of steps into the...

We stayed here for 2 nights when visiting Matera. This B&B has a wonderful view from the terraces, lovely to look out onto. Room 9 was wonderful and large, and had a japanese style bath that was so deep. It connected to bluetooth so you could set your own music to play, such fun. Breakfast was adequate, staff were nice...

When you see Matera you are awestruck by its beauty. This b and b has one of the best views from the terrace. It is hard to find and if it was not for the nice people in town we would still be driving around. If you drive you can park for free just outside of the old town area...

This is a perfect place to stay in a very beautiful town. The rooms have wonderful views over the sasso, with terraces providing the perfect setting to enjoy this amazing spot. Probably the best location to stay in Matera, easy to get to, right in the heart of the most attractive part of town and all with this stunning view....

This is a simply beautiful place to stay. The location is amazing, right down in the Sassi, fantastic views. We had room 1 which has a great view of the Sassi and out into the countryside through the full height glass door. All rooms are individually styled ours was less of a cave than some of them but it was...

Fra I Sassi is located directly across from the caves of Matera. Tee rooms are spacious, comfortable, high quality furnishings, bed extremely comfortable. Great views, just an outstanding value. Will definitely stay at Fra I Sassi when I return to Matera.

We had a "comfort" room which was a large and spacious cave room. Just fabulous. The room opened out onto the terrace which had fantastic views over the city. The breakfast was extremely good, and the staff could not have been more helpful in telling us of the best places to go and good restaurants too.. The only downside was...

Each room is unique, room 8 was huge with the bathroom and Japanese style deep bath in a cave part of the room. Seashells embedded in the rock ceiling are clearly visible. Staying in this hotel is an experience on it's own, highly recommended.

We were only in Matera for one night, it was easy to park at the hotel and take our bags up, the hotel organised for a someone to pick up our car and park it which was very helpful. The room was a cave room, very clean, lovely big bath and shower and comfortable bed. Breakfast, simple but lovely. Staff...
