We stayed here for a week on b&b basis. The hotel is ideally located for beach, shops and restaurants. The sea view rooms are worth paying extra unfortunately we couldn’t get one. The breakfast was excellent with great variety. It’s well organised with staff showing you to a table every morning. There’s plenty of restaurants in the locality if you enjoy eating somewhere different each evening. My only complaint is the swimming pool area isn’t big enough for the hotel. It’s very difficult to get a sunbed with an umbrella.
This is a beautiful hotel with fantastic amenities set in Calp near the beach. However a couple of issues people should be aware of, it’s a very big hotel the pool is not big enough for the amount of guests it was a rush every morning to get to the pool and grab a sun bed with parasol the pool doesn’t open till 9:30am. Although the beach is a short walk from the hotel there are no sun beds or parasols for you to use ( I would’ve thought that the hotel owners would’ve sorted this out with local officials to have an area of beach for use of hotel guests as in other areas of the Med ). It took us till day 3 to work out that the nespresso machine in the bedroom could deliver just hot water in order to make a cup of tea. Breakfasts were amazing with lots of choice but sometimes hot items were cold there were very few teapots without lids until our last day when teapots with lids were available. The hotel has entertainment most evenings if you don’t want to venture far. The local restaurants are plentiful and on the whole good. We found an excellent Indian restaurant but the name escapes me. There is not a lot else to do in the area there are a couple of nature reserves and we walked to see the Roman ruins along the beach front near the harbour. …
Currently on the last night of a 5 night stay at the Gran Hotel Sol Y Mar. Overall really liked it and would return & recommend although a couple of niggles that stops it being a five star review. What we liked: Lovely sized room, spotlessly clean, lovely big Queen sized comfortable bed. Lots of nice little touches in the room like sleep spray, pillow menu, a good sized balcony, we separate to the rest of the bathroom, a bites, great shower, plenty of wardrobe space . Friendly staff, from the check in to our leaving the majority of the staff were excellent. Good quality food and drink, cocktails etc. Nice contemporary decor with some quirky touches. Opportunities for improvement: Shower pressure high, shower screens not so big so water went all over the bathroom floor. Breakfast a hit or a miss depending on who was serving you……. To not get offered coffee and have to ask is a miss on an absolute hospitality basic and happened a lot. Music by the pool, I like my dance music but I also like to relax and hear the waves so felt the DJ was too often …… this should be paired down a bit in my opinion. The pool area is very small …..think the hotel has missed a tick to have a rood top pool also. Overall a lovely hotel and the second Sol Y Mar hotel we have stayed in. Would 100% stay again.…
If the service was as good as the food you would have hit the Jackpot You have to leave deposits for puttying anything on your bill to the room, i left £200 for drinks which was quickly swallowed up with the Very Expensive costs and when it was depleted i felt very awkward and made to feel uncomfortable in front of many other Guest that you have no more money on your account. Me and my wife are very well traveled and holiday abroad at least 6 times a year and in all our destinations have Never had to pre-pay for anything billed to the room. Check in is the slowest check in i have ever experienced with many people not queuing and simply pushing in with the hotel staff saying nothing, again leaving me feel uncomfortable. Me and my wife booked the holiday purely for relaxation and we were sold on the beautiful looking infinity pool, we soon discovered that 1x its a different location to the hotel 2x you have no chance of getting a bed with endless towels on beds that are not occupied 3x no service, you have to go to the bar to get your own overpriced drink. In the evenings we spent a lot of time in the hotel reception, it was cool and comfortable with a bar, but again no service you have to go to the bar yourself. The plus side i have to be Honest is the food and choice it really is exceptional. So sol y mar please take note that if your service was as good as your food you would definitely get a five star review. I spent £1890 full board for a five night stay for me and my wife and spent well over £300 in drinks mainly water and coffee. Was it worth it NO SORRY…
This is a very nice hotel. The exterior may look a bit dated, but nothing like that on the inside. All of the common areas are nicely appointed in the most modern and comfortable way. The buffet restaurant serves excellent food (we had half board) and the rooms are spaceous with excellent airconditioning. There are however, some workpoints: the pool area is limited, which cannot be helped, but there were way too few umbrellas to shield from the sun (it was 35°C in the shade!). Another difficult one is the reason why breakfast outside only starts at 9… by that time it was already to hot to sit in the sun.
Great location at the start of Calpe promenade overlooking the beach and Ifach rock. Excellent breakfast choice of fresh produce cooked and show cooking omelette station. Rooms quiet (we had internal room ) and quite spacious. We stayed in November 2019 at the time of the Moors v Christian’s festival.
Cannot fault this hotel exceptional service, staff so friendly and excellent English. Hotel was spotless and food delicious, breakfast options were endless and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay would highly recommend!we will definitely come again.
Just stayed for 10 nights at this beautiful hotel. This is our second time here. Last time we stayed B&B but this time went half board & was not disappointed. The food is very good & so much choice. The only negative is that it was very busy especially at breakfast & food was not replenished. We also waited 20 minutes one evening to get a drink. We paid extra once again for a sea view room, well worth it. We had room 921, it was lovely with a large balcony & amazing views. The balcony had 2 sun loungers on & we got the sun all day. The hotel is very busy with guests checking in & out all the time. Drinks are very reasonable. The hotel is kept spotlessly clean. We had clean fluffy towels every day & the bed linen was changed every other day. We also had bath robes & slippers & lots of little extras in the room. Shower was excellent. There is a fridge with water replenished daily. Calpe has a beautiful very clean beach & a lovely promenade leading to the harbour. The Parc Natural is well worth a visit where the rock is & the old town is lovely & very quaint. I would definitely recommend this hotel & being adults only was a bonus.…
This is a great hotel. I’ve just celebrated an amazing wedding here, and you couldn’t do it better if you tried. The rooms are great, apartment and suites too! Some work is needed on rejuvenating it, the lifts are slow at best, but it is completely polished as a whole. But honestly, I have had the best cocktails here ever. Sebastian is one of the many bar whom you will meet and makes one of the finest cocktails you will ever taste, even his colleagues praise his ability.- I’m a barman and I praise his ability!!! Ask for Sebastian, and ask for a Negroni or a Vespa Martini (which he makes on his one secret recipient) unless he his having a night off Tip him his dues.
We have just returned from 2 fantastic weeks at the solymar the hotel is spotless the rooms were cleaned every day.Breakfast was great so much on offer the only problem the hot food isn’t hot enough, all the staff were very friendly I didn’t spend any time at the infinity pool as we could never get a sun bed because there just wasn’t enough of them.We spent every day on the lovely beach in front of the hotel the sand was soft and the sea crystal clear and so safe for none swimmers as it was shallow for a good way out .The hotel is in the best position in the whole of Calpe you have lots of restaurants and some really nice shops in walking distance. The old area of Calpe is just up a hill outside the hotel there are lots of beautiful restaurants and a lovely castle. What amazed me the most was you get into the lift and press S for supermarket and you are in for a real surprise we had never seen anything like it made Waitrose look like co-op everything was so well presented I was that impressed I actually video it .…
