We travelled here for a long weekend over the bank holiday as a last minute getaway. I'll try and go through things chronologically so I don't miss anything. Check in: It's not great but it's also not the worst I have seen. Our room wasn't ready so we went to change in the toilets to use the pool and place our bags in the baggage room. As I was changing in the gents my phone goes to tell me our room is ready. This was a good thing but was also a bit of a mess around as I'd only tried to check in 15 minutes prior. The pool is small. There are not enough loungers here for a hotel of this size and they do not get the sun very much during the day. That said there is a woman assigned to remove reserved towels if people try to leave them for too long - she is not shy to make her presence felt so I don't know where these other reviews are coming from stating people reserve them all day without using them. The slides. This was the reason I booked this hotel. They are open sporadically and usually only one at a time. This was a big disappointment to my kids and when they did ride them they ended up with bruises and blood blisters on their back due to the rough ride. Very poor. The rooms. They're pretty good. They had everything we needed, the aircon worked well and was quiet, the bathroom was adequate and the room although relatively small was perfectly adequate. We understood it would be tight with 4 of us in a family room and provided you don't travel expecting a suite then you will be fine. The food. Reasonable but nothing outstanding. The AI snack bar is good during the day and evening meal is OK but nothing to write home about. There is always beer/wine/ice cream available so it's not all bad! The entertainment/other guests/staff. You're in Spain, the staff speak Spanish, this is a predominantly Spanish hotel - do yourself a favour and learn a few words, it will make life so much easier for you. Don't be the arrogant brit abroad shouting louder and slower to try and communicate, the staff work hard and will generally try to communicate in English if you just make a little effort. The Spanish tourists however are a different story, they are the single most arrogant and rude group of people I have ever come across whilst travelling. Zero manners and just horrible to be around. Maybe it was this hotel or just this group of people there this trip but they were truly awful. Would I recommend it? I wouldn't tell someone not to go there but it would have some caveats. Oh and its at the top of a pretty big hill so be prepared for that - it didn't bother us but if you have mobility issues or small kids this could be a problem.

The good: The food is good, fresh and varied. The salad bar and continental in particular has lots of choice and is plentiful for all dietary requirements. The drink is branded and again plenty of choice, in addition the staff work very hard and continue to smile. The housekeeping is spot on, they work very hard and always leave the rooms clean with fresh towels. Sam head of entertainment was so very helpful with regards to our antigen tests/ uk forms and went above and beyond to ensure we had all documents for us to fly back home. The kids club is great and all the team made our 7year old want to go back every day! The staff put on swimming carpet and water polo which our older children enjoyed taking part in. We sat and watched them all by the swim up bar, which was perfect. My 7 yo did the slide once and said it was fun, but with the weight restrictions in place and after other holiday makers complaining about being weighed before going on, neither me or my husband wanted to be fat shamed at the top of the slides. The bad: Although the rooms are clean, they are not very big. Two small doubles pushed together with not much room around them. Unfortunately, not ideal for us as we had two adults, our 20 yo, two 15 yo and a 7 yo, which ended up with us all on top of one another. Unfortunately most of the flooring in the hotel is high gloss tiles and when wet can make the floors extremely slippery. In the swimming pool toilets these are highly dangerous as I found out by having a fall and breaking my arm- please take extra care! Lifts are a nightmare! Very slow, very small and could be waiting sometime at peak times. The magnetic keys are also a real pain, as they constantly demagnetising. Reception can be extremely busy and you could be waiting some time to be seen, although staff remain friendly and helpful. Smoking is one small outdoor space, from one side of the hotel to the other, could really do with making a few spaces for smokers to make these areas less cramped. Air conditioning unit in rooms leak, it leaked in two of our rooms needing our clothes to be dry cleaned and again leaving floors slippy. The hotel is at the top of a steep hill, it is a real cardio buster! Kids moan all the way up. Sun beds are a nightmare to get, staff will remove towels if you are not on them as we figured out on day one when we went for breakfast leaving our older children in the pool to come back and found all our towels had been moved. Overall we enjoyed our holiday, food and drink was good, hotel is clean and staff are friendly. Unfortunately, we won’t return due to the size of the bedrooms and the sheer size of the hotel, just too many people for us I’m afraid.

Our disappointing stay started as soon as we arrived. The reception area and checking in is dysfunctional and carnage. We waited a long time to check in. Once checked in our room was not ready but we were early and were told we could make the most out of the facilities until it was. The kids were so excited to see the pool and slides. There were hundreds of sun beds with towels on them with no one on them! so we had no where to sit. No was was monitoring this and we were left like many other arriving families walking around hoping a sunbed would become free. I sat with our belongings Inside at the bar whilst my partner and my two children went to enjoy the slides. My partner shortly returned to say four of the slides were closed and the slide supervisor for the two remaining open slides said there was a height requirement and the children were too small. NONE of this was mentioned before booking...as you can imagine we had some very disappointed children and tears!! When our room was ready we went to unpack, the room smelt of smoke, this is a none smoking hotel. This is clearly not the case as whilst we were around the pool there are people hanging out of the windows smoking from their rooms. we had breakfast at the hotel, there is plenty to chose from but the warm food was cold my partner asked for a fresh omelette to be made but the chef said no as there were already omelette available to eat, and suggested he eat the cold one, following this the chef made a fellow Spanish lady a fresh omelette! My partner asked for a fresh one again and he received the same response! It is felt that this is maybe a Spanish hotel and they don’t like british people as it was clear by staff behaviour towards us and the fact that we were treat differently to the Spanish We place a complaint when we check out, surprise, surprise the manager wasn’t able to speak to us but we were told someone would contact us to discuss our complaint.... we are still waiting... Advise: book somewhere else is your British!

Gradually, thanks to the suggestions of our customers, we are improving and we are now improving all services and facilities for the next season. A welcome letter is given to each client upon arrival, where we offer extensive information on the establishment, as well as entertainment activities and schedules. The establishment has several digital screens, one of them giant in the pool with information and schedules of the different points of the Hotel. They also have at their disposal an APP, which is downloaded for free and with all the updated information and a chat with a direct line to ask for any questions that arise and that will answer you immediately. In addition the brochure of the Magic Costa Blanca Chain, available in your room where you can see photos and information of the different establishments of Magic Costablanca. Our brochure and welcome letter indicate the possibility of upgrading the room if the client wishes, and in the same way we inform you of the use of the 24-hour Formula with which the client can contact the hotel if you need help or any incident occurs during the first 24 hours of stay so that our staff can resolve them immediately. In Magic Rock Gardens we work to have happy customers, and if any mishap occurs, the maintenance team is available to deal with incidents, as well as the Management team, which is in the hotel from 08.00 in the morning until 00.00h of the night. Through the team of the reception team you can request a change of pillows since we have a 24-hour guard and attention service to deal with any type of incident, in this case for the change of pillows. On the other hand it has our exclusive pillow menu service. The Magic Aqua Rock Gardens Hotel has 3 restaurants, Virgin Africa, Africa Falls (open seasonally), and Snack Paradise, all open at lunch and dinner and where you can enjoy a 14-day menu wheel with a variety of dishes , (legumes, fish, vegetables, meats, pastas, paellas, fruits, desserts, tapas, salads etc ...) in addition to personalized menus for vegetarians and celiacs, which are personally served by the maître and head chef. We have an exclusive menu for children, where they have a wide variety of dishes to choose from. Pizzas, nuggets, puppies, portioned cheeses, pastas, hamburgers, special purees, various compotes, and several flavors of drinkable yogurts and traditional yogurts etc… we also have our "child chef" that helps and suggests children and their parents options they have for the little ones. Homemade desserts are varied made with the love and professionalism of our pastry chef; puff pastry with fruit, cheesecake, egg custard, biscuits of different flavors, strudel, calatrava bread, pudding and cakes of all flavors, personalized treatment is offered to people who have any allergy or food intolerance. About our gastronomic offer, we have a wide menu wheel with a rotation of 14 days, so that, every day, you can find news reflected as such in the posters of suggestions and news of the day. Our restaurants have extensive service hours for all customers in our different restaurants continuously. Africa Virgen Restaurant: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and Snack; Africa Falls Restaurant: Lunch and Dinner. Paradise Snack Restaurant. In addition to our theme nights such as Spanish, Oriental, Mexican and other nights. Our Showcooking plates each day offer different varieties of meat, fish and combinations of these foods with vegetables. Positives: Hotel is very clean and is being cleaned 24/7 Covid restrictions implemented by staff Some brilliant members of staff namely Jimmy, William and Jonh - friendly, happy, interacting with the children, nothing too much trouble. Food was a great selection, always hot, always different choices. Drinks again, great. Lots to do for 8year old - teens. VR room, activities daily, water slides etc. TV in the rooms had a good selection of English channels Staff are hot on sunbed hoggers, beds not returned to within 30 mins would have their towels removed. 3 minute walk to the beach, nearby restaurants and supermarkets, pharmacy, laundrette etc. Fantastic location Negatives: No balcony in the rooms You’re not given all inclusive wristbands. You’re given a card to use - it’s tricky to find somewhere to store said card in a bikini to use the swim up bar Sun is behind the hotel until 12pm and then goes behind nearing apartment block for 4pm so limited sun leaving the pool cold and not much time to catch a tan Children’s pool and sunbeds for it are under the walkway for slides meaning no sun at all - too cold for toddlers to actually use Entertainment was not upto scratch with other Spanish hotels, there was no real nighttime atmosphere for the children. Main problem - bar a few members of the team previously mentioned this is a Spanish hotel, for Spanish people. The mini disco and pool games we’re all in Spanish and there was no effort to include the English children. It was clear any English guests we’re looked down on as secondary to the Spanish(by English staff also) they would be treated better, served at the bar first if there were 2 of you waiting, a member of our party was told off for vaping in the outside area of the bar, which is fine rules are rules, but a Spanish male was smoking cigarettes 2 tables beside and nothing was said. I think it’s disgusting to be treated that way as an equally paying customer and human. You saw facial expressions change as soon as the staff realised you were English. (I spoke to the only 3 other English families at the resort who confirmed the same views) Overall we enjoyed our time however our highlights were when we did things outside of the hotel. I wouldn’t recommend the hotel nor return and had it not been for the good quality food and drinks; we would have left and booked another hotel for the remainder of our time. It certainly was not worth the money we spent (12 guests over 9k) The pictures look perfect but I don’t think it’s fit for purpose with lack of sun to the pool area and all guests need to be treated the same. I think there are much better and more inclusive hotels around the area that deserve hard working English patrons money more and would appreciate their guests. Returned home with 0 tan and realising we should have stuck to the Suneo chain.

We have just returned from a weeks stay, The positives - Immaculately clean, the staff clean non stop from 6am to midnight. We woke early one day and saw the pool cleaning staff scrubbing the edges of the pool. They clean sunbeds once they clear them, and clean all day long. Sunbed hoarding management - most days towels were removed if they were left for half an hour or more. We never had to race for a sunbed, and could move round the pool during the day. Food quality - food was hot and well cooked. Didn't once have issues with undercooked or cold food. We liked that we could select a slot for mealtimes, and we were flexible with it (30-45 mins late sometimes) and it was no problem. We only ever saw people queuing for the restaurant after 9.30pm. We had to ask mid week to move our evening reservation to the Africa Virgine restaurant - the food selection is bigger. Another guest told us they book the Brits into the smaller restaurant, and the Spanish to the larger one. The food selection is very random at times, but we never went hungry. The pool - the temp is completely fine. Its shaded from around 3pm, but generally was packed until it closed at 8pm so it must not be an issue for most. The negatives... . The English are in the massive minority here, and are treated like it too. Some staff visibly rolled their eyes when they realised we were English when we asked questions, snatched the all-inclusive cards out of our hands, and were just completely rude at times. I found the staff in the pool snack bar to be the worst. We are a very polite family with well behaved children, and it was unjustified everytime. I visited reception to ask about restaurant options only to be told by a member of staff she doesn't understand me, yet she checked us in the day before with no problems. As a hotel that sells to Jet2, TUI and First choice, ALL visitors should be treated the same. Nighttime entertainment and The "British" bar - Apart from the phonebox, there's nothing British about it. The bar staff are lovely though. The bubbleman entertainment was good... I don't know how I feel about someone blowing their breath around an enclosed room in a pandemic. Having the kids entertainment outside would have made so much more sense. Kids entertainment - below average. I feel like I'm repeating myself about a language barrier when we are in Spain, but we holiday every year and our children have never been made to feel they don't fit in and are unwelcome because of the language they speak, but this was a real problem with the staff. The kids club - I have never visited a TUI hotel where the kids club staff have to use Google translate with a 5 year old. I was not going to leave my child with a person who he can't communicate with, this was disappointing as it's advertised by First Choice and TUI as a feature of the hotel for its guests. I wouldn't return to this hotel, purely due the minority of the staff attitude. I would visit a hotel in the chain, if the standard is similar because even with the negatives it was a pleasant stay. The hotel itself is nice, the layout isn't as confusing as some of the reviews make out, it's very similar to being on a cruise ship.
