My mother and I stayed two separate nights- each room had twin beds. The first room was tight but enough. The second room was a little larger. Private showers that were small. Everything we needed was provided- desk, tv, in room coffee, soap etc. Everything was very clean. The Hostel is up two flights of stairs but there is an...

Flight delays caused me to arrive super-late, but my host was there to show me around. The hostel and my room were far more charming and pleasant than I expected. The single room was small, but perfect for my needs. After a hot shower and great sleep in the comfortable bed, I wandered around the neighborhood, which is steps from...

Friendly and helpful staff, a small-size room, the coffee/tea pot and fridge are unexpected benefits. Our room looked ar the side street and was noisy but we liked a lot much, it gives you a great feel for the city. The small balcony is also a nice bonus and the location is outstanding, you walk a block an a half...

This place fits all the requirement: cheap, close to sol station (literally 2min walk), clean, has a fridge, a/c, a safe, and wifi. The only reason this is quite not 5*s is because the wifi was intermittent and although my room had a window, it had no balcony and in fact there were metal shutters in the way that obscured...

The location is the best! Everything is so close. It is clean and rooms are comfortable enough. The lady that runs a hostel and her husband were very nice and helpful. Sometimes it knows to be a little bit noise, but you expect that on that location. If I go to Madrid again, I will probably pick the same hostel.

The room was not huge but the bed was good and the picture on the back wall made the room feel bigger than it was. I had an interior room and it was nice and quiet. The shower is the kind with the hand-held shower head and the thing to hang it on so it would stay overhead was broken....

Stayed 4 days at Hostal Commercial in July 2016. Very nice cosy hostal, locally placed in the center of Madrid 150m from Puerto del Sol. We had room no 1, with own bathroom. It's a tiny room but very clean with a nice asmosphere. Everything in walking distance from Museo del Prado to the Royal Palace.

We had just come from Barcelona where we had paid twice the nightly amount than our reservation here. I had a few qualms wondering If I had gone too down market and would we be comfortable. What a pleasant surprise. We had room 12 just off the lobby and could not have been happier. Yes the room was cosy but...

First time here. For wanting to have the luxuries of a regular room like in the US, we had room #10. Fabulous !!!! The location is right in the heart of Madrid. Just where you want to be. Go to the Sol metro station. Walk right up the street. 3 minutes you're there. Room was great. Full bath. Bed balcony....

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
