Affordable stay, clean hostel with very helpful and friendly staff. Located in a central city location where you can easily travel to all the sites you would like to see in Madrid. This hostel is quiet at night but you can find lots to do just outside at any time. Broken shower head in one of the bathrooms and small... More

Very centrally located and everything is within walking distance such as a Metro station called Sol (aka Vodafone Sol), a well-stocked supermarket, a post-office, a cinema, a couple of pharmacies, and of course, many cafes, pubs, restaurants including fast-food. You can actually get to this hostel from the airport so cheap and easily - take Line C-1 at Aeropuerto T4,... More

This hostel is in central Madrid, a few minutes walk from Puerta del Sol. There are a few dormitories, a small reception area and a small kitchen. My dormitory and en suite bathroom was clean and surprisingly quiet given the central location. The bed was comfortable and it was helpful to have free individual lockers in the dormitory for my... Advisable to avoid this place. After staying here, my girlfriend developed red spots over most of her body - aka, bed bugs. The place itself, aside from the little creatures, is also horrible. It's dark and depressing. The only thing great about it is the location, but aside from that I'm not sure I've stayed in a worse hostel. Definitely... More

The location of the hostel is great, right near Plaza del Sol and Plaza Mayor. It's in walking distance of tons of places to go out at night and to eat, and it's right next to a subway station as well. When our group couldn't initial book rooms together, they were very accommodating about putting us in the same room.... More

I liked this place, the bloke who did the nights/early mornings was a bit of a miserable git though; fired me a couple of hateful glares on the morning I was leaving, all I was doing was walking along the corridor - you'd swear I was doing something quite bizarre - bit of a downer.

Yan can't have a greater location to sleep in you want to visit Madrid. The grocery store is right in front and the subway is at 2 min by walk. Puerta Del Sol is right in the heart of the city. All best attractions can be made by walk. The only one problem is the noise around there. Spanish guys... More

This hostal was really close to the Plaza de Sol (about 4 minutes walk from the metro), and there are loads of shops (including El Corte Ingles) nearby. Fantastic location. I was travelling alone, (a woman the wrong side of 50), and I wanted somewhere central, safe, clean, and cheap. It ticked all the boxes - cost around 30 euros... More

I am here now, and it is 4am in the morning. The reason I am up and writing is because the room in which I am staying has no air-conditioning, which is contrary to the information provided on the Hostelworld website. Apparently every other room besides mine has this facility. After the not insignificant expense of transportation getting to this... More

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.

“The hostel is in a building on the 4th floor. Buzz in outside to get entry and take the elevator up. The second shower had a broken head and the kitchen is small but these are minor issues. They have a PC with internet access for guests to use. Remember to bring your own lock. The stay is enjoyable especially due to the kind and helpful staff.”
