This hostel is located outside the downtown in La Latina district. Room costs about 40euros. It is real hostel for travellers, backpackers etc. Here you can opportunity to meet people from around the world. Bathrooms are clean and modern so no risk. Close to the hostel is metro station Anton Martin.

This was the first place we stayed after flying from Australia. It was clean and comfortable, easy to come and go as we pleased. There was just one shared bathroom, but it wasn't too busy so we didn't have any problems with that. We didn't find it too noisy, but that might be due to the season (we were there...

I have stayed here twice. Both times I had the cheapest single room at the front of the building, facing the street. The manager is a nice guy, but he is rarely around. On my second stay nobody was there when I arrived, and I had to wait around a while. Once you get settled it's a great place though....

Rooms were very clean. Great location but unfortunately very noisy. Suggest considering purely to rest your head.

Stayed here at a small double room facing the street (facing the noisy Santa Ana direction). Our bed is small for a couple. And we did get annoyed by the noises in the late night. So which room and rate one will get did contribute to the non-uniform ratings people posted here. I feel the hostal may be understaffed and...

The hotel is located a few floors up from the main floor and climbing the staircase leading to the hotel is an experience, with it's oddly spaced and warped wooden stairs. The decor inside the hotel is kind of quirky. Julio, the man who runs the hotel, is very helpful and informative. He has designed his own map of the...

We stayed in the King Alfonso XII room which had its own bathroom. It was a nice quaint room and was greta for our three nights in Madrid. The hostal is close to del sol and the metro. It had free wifi and the room was of average size. The owner was freindly and gave us a map with some...

Our room was small and simple but adequate and clean. The building is a bit odd to be honest but very charming. Almost makes you feel as though you're wandering around a museum of sorts. The owner/manager while not overly outgoing was friendly and happy to accommodate requests and answer questions. Share bathrooms were very clean and the place was...

When I made the reservation I knew my plane was to arrive late in the evening. Julio, the hotel owner, was so kind to wait for my arrival. So a better start of my vacation is not imaginable. The hotel has a very nice atmosphere because of the colors and the scent of incense; just as a vacation should be...

I'm staying there now. It has 2 types of rooms - basic sleeps with shared bathrooms (very clean) and rooms with private bath. If you just need a place to crash, it´s fine. But you need to contact Julio by email because he is rarely around to answer the phone. I stayed there 2 days in mid March and then...

Staying in Huertas

Neighbourhood Profile
Huertas
Also known as Barrio de las Letras, Huertas was once home to prominent literary figures, Miguel de Cervantes and Lope de Vega among them. The neighbourhood is committed to celebrating its rich heritage: Calle Huertas itself is inlaid with quotes from celebrated authors, street names pay homage to them, and second-hand bookshops pervade. Huertas receives a fair amount of spillover from the center — side streets around Plaza Santa Ana take on a foreign party atmosphere at night, and you always see young backpackers navigating the streets — but as you descend into the neighbourhood, everything becomes a little more cramped and slightly less refined, and takes on more of an underground feel. Live music is at the heart of Huertas: by night, its subdued bars are ideal for meeting friends, sipping cocktails, and chatting quietly while enjoying jazz or singer-songwriter performances.

“Choose an internal room and risk the nosiy neighbour, if there are external rooms, you run the risk of night revellers returning home and early traffic. Quite normal for Madrid city centre.”
