The hostel is located in the centre of Madrid. 5* location - very close to Sol metro, restaurants, shops, tourist site seeing areas and clubs/bars. The room was very spacious and came with 2 beds. Toilet is shared however there are many toilets so me and my friend ended up having the toilet to ourselves! The breakfast is very simple...

I liked the central location looking onto Puerta del Sol plaza. Brilliant watched buskers from balcony. No problems with nighttime noise. Worst beds. Flat and thin cheap mattress. Breakfast was basic and we ended up skipping it to get something better in mall. TV channel - only one in English. Super fast wifi - fabulous. Polite helpful staff. Has a...

When I first reserved my room, the name at the hotel reservation site I use did not include "Hostel". Later, reading reviews, I realized I had not booked a standard hotel like I thought I had. Although I think the hostel should make sure it is advertising correctly, I did have a chance to cancel. After reading reviews, I decided...

The location is the best possible, right in the center of the old town, a walking distance to everywehere, and it's above the most usefull metro station with 3 lines going through it. The rooms were big enough, very clean. Friendly staff. Breakfast is basic but fresh and enjoyable, served from 8 AM. Our shower was a bit too small...

As a gay traveler, I generally seek out properties that specifically cater to gay men and women. This property advertises itself heavily as the "Gay Hostal," and it's website is filled with photos of men in Speedos. It's a nice place and certainly a bargain -- and in a great location, but this is certainly not a gay hotel. I've...

Although a little old and tatty at the edges the location and the friendly staff really made this the place to stay on a budget. the staff were really good at helping me to find places, to change money. The first room i had was a bit poor and they happily swapped me to a better one. Breakfast is basic....

1st visit to Madrid and when looking for somewhere cheap as its only a place to sleep really, selected this hostel due to cost and location which would take a lot of beating. On line pictures were obviously taken be a professional estate agent. The rooms looked good. On arriving, discovered the hostel reception was on the 4th floor, missed...

This is not the Ritz. Hostal Puerta del Sol is loacted above shops and offices directly on the Plaza Puerta del Sol, it is a great location right in the heart of everything! Imagine staying on Trafalgar Square or Picadilly Circus in London. The sqaure is noisy and full of life. There is a metro station right outside! but to...

I was fortunate enough to travel with a friend who had been to Madrid several times and knew how to maneuver the subway system. We lucked out and got one of the rooms on the top floor with a terrace and our own bathroom. The room itself was modest and smoke-free. The bathroom very adequate for our needs. The WiFi...

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
