Located on a noisy nighttime street we found this place clean and comfortable. Located right off plaza Santa Anna we found we could walk to anywhere with ease then come back to the plaza for drinks or tapas. We had a nice large double bed and a small balcony with a clean private bath. The only downsides were the noise...

We stayed at Hotel San Isidro for three days. The location is excellent, next to Plaza del Sol, perfect to walk around the city center. The Hotel is at the second floor of a building. Rooms are quite wide and very clean. Staff is very kind and helpfull. The price is very competitive. We had a beautiful stay and we...

I've been here twice for some day to visit Madrid. The location is perfect, right next to Sol and Plaza Sant'Anna, you do not even need to get the undergroud, you can simply walk around the city center and reach everything. The hostal is at the second floor of a typical spanish building without elevator. Rooms are not very big,...

We stayed at Hostal San Isidro on two occasions during our trip with my husband and three of our children (ages 16, 14, 11). We stayed for 4 nights upon arriving to Spain via Madrid, then we returned for one night before flying home after visiting other cities. We had two rooms, a double and triple. During our first stay,...

Lovely small hostal close to Santa Ana which has great bars and restaurants. Comfortable internal room with tiny bathroom, clean and with safe and TV. Sound does travel through these buildings so ear plugs are a must. Central and easy to walk to most galleries and sights. Handy for Sol and Seville metro stations and easy airport connection.

For a centrally located hostal in Madrid i don't think you could do much better than this one. I wasn't expecting much for the price (special offer in July 32€ for a single room) but I actually got a double room with a private bathroom on the 1st floor. It was air conditioned, well-maintained and spotlessly clean. Double glazing, persianas...

The staff is really nice and helpfull. We book a twin room but at the end a friend of us decided to join us in Madrid. We asked to have one more bed in the room and they help us very carefully. The room was not really big but large enough for 3 beds. The bathroom was clean. The location...

It looks like this tiny hotel might have seen better days, though it's still a nice place to stay for travelers on a budget. I chose it out of an old Lonely Planet guide. The hostel is small--about 10 single and double rooms--and is located on the second floor of an apartment building. The staff are very friendly and kind,...

Staying in Huertas

Neighbourhood Profile
Also known as Barrio de las Letras, Huertas was once home to prominent literary figures, Miguel de Cervantes and Lope de Vega among them. The neighbourhood is committed to celebrating its rich heritage: Calle Huertas itself is inlaid with quotes from celebrated authors, street names pay homage to them, and second-hand bookshops pervade. Huertas receives a fair amount of spillover from the center — side streets around Plaza Santa Ana take on a foreign party atmosphere at night, and you always see young backpackers navigating the streets — but as you descend into the neighbourhood, everything becomes a little more cramped and slightly less refined, and takes on more of an underground feel. Live music is at the heart of Huertas: by night, its subdued bars are ideal for meeting friends, sipping cocktails, and chatting quietly while enjoying jazz or singer-songwriter performances.
