Before coming here I read a lot of reviews. The bad ones complained about thin walls and bad internet connection which is very true but this is an old building! It's part of it and you just have to recognise that. Wifi could be better , I mostly used data on my phone because it was not that reliable. The...

it is located at the quiet end of Vodafone Sol (Puerta Del Sol) and is probably about 8 mins walk away. You can take to Sevilla station which is approx 3 mins walk away to the hostal. When you alight at Sol station, take the lift / escalator up to lift street. When you see the huge Apple store, head...

Astoria Hostal is located in a strategic position. It's very close to puerta del sol. It is in a historic building of Madrid (maybe a little bit 'old') but the rooms are very beautiful and the staff very helpful. I can recommend it to those who want to visit and live the real Spanish atmosphere.

Astoria Hostal is a very choice in Madrid. It is very well situated, clean and comfortable. It is also quiet and nicely assisted. It seems to be rather expensive for what I had expected but it is good value for money. I would certainly go back.

The hotel is situated within a 10mins walk from Puerta del Sol and Prado museum in either direction. We had a triple room that overlooked onto the street with a large and accommodating washroom (all relatively new conditions). The wifi worked well on all five days we were there. They also offer laundry service at a very convenient price. Overall,...

Family of 4 showed up in Madrid with no reservation for the night during a holiday puente. There are several hostals located in the same building and we were quoted 90-140 euros for the other places. They offered us a triple room with en suite bathroom for only 65 euros. You can't find that price anywhere else! The room was...

This Hostal is situated in the very heart of Madrid and close to everything in the city centre. (Prado, Gran Via, Callao, Opera, convents) The staff at the front desk were really helpful in addressing all our questions (giving recommendations, helping with the print-out of electronic flight registration tickets, etc.). The room was nice and clean. The window faced one...

This hotel has almost everything. It is in a great location within walking distance to all of the attractions that were of interest to us: museums, Royal Palace, gardens, and many restaurants. It is a great value for the price if you don't mind a small room with few amenities. The room was clean and quiet. The hotel staff was...

It was the first time we stay at Hostal Astoria. We needed a triple room and this hostal was a very good option. Great location. Clean. Friendly staff. Wifi ok. Asked for a quiet room and got one (4th floor). Lot's of places for breakfast nearby at a reasonable price. Walking distance for great museums and main attractions. Best way...

Staying in Huertas

Neighbourhood Profile
Also known as Barrio de las Letras, Huertas was once home to prominent literary figures, Miguel de Cervantes and Lope de Vega among them. The neighbourhood is committed to celebrating its rich heritage: Calle Huertas itself is inlaid with quotes from celebrated authors, street names pay homage to them, and second-hand bookshops pervade. Huertas receives a fair amount of spillover from the center — side streets around Plaza Santa Ana take on a foreign party atmosphere at night, and you always see young backpackers navigating the streets — but as you descend into the neighbourhood, everything becomes a little more cramped and slightly less refined, and takes on more of an underground feel. Live music is at the heart of Huertas: by night, its subdued bars are ideal for meeting friends, sipping cocktails, and chatting quietly while enjoying jazz or singer-songwriter performances.
