This place was more of a hotel than hostel - I.e no kitchen etc. but really nice and in a central location. Close to metro stop and piazza mayor. Big room with nice bathroom - only downside the shower leaked quite considerably. Good heating, clean

Less than a block up the street from Plaza del Sol, we couldn't have asked for a better location. We got an upgrade to an apartment which was more than we needed but worked fine. A bit disappointed though as the only windows we had were of the center light-well that looked across into other apartments and we had two... More

The reception for the hotel was very professional. You think these things don't make a difference, but when you are traveling with a family, it is actually reassuring that you picked a place that has an air of legitimacy. The location could not be better. It was a two minute walk from the Sol metro station. We were also able... More

The staff were v friendly and helpful. We will stay there again. The location was perfect, we walked everywhere. Tip. If you arrive... More

I've been staying at Hostal Madrid since 1999 and have appreciated the good value, friendly staff and central location practically adjacent to both Puerta del Sol and Plaza Mayor. Hostal Madrid recently underwent a renovation and the lobby as well as the rooms have been completely refurbished with new furniture and bathroom fixtures. My single room was well equipped with... I booked a triple room for 2 nights and then 3 nights, separate by a couple of days in between. The first room was clean. AC was good and quiet. Location was great, only a short walk to Plaza Mayor and Puerto Del Sol. When we came back for the 3 nights, the hotel offered to upgrade us to an... More

Hostal Madrid is a great place to stay in Madrid - excellent location close to Plaza Mayor and Puerta del Sol, friendly and service-minded staff, newly done rooms with modern and clean en-suite shower rooms, high-quality bed, air-conditioning, flat-screen tv etc. Stayed 5 nights in Room 12 (ground floor, located at the back of the building, away from the street,... Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
