I stayed at the hostal Madrid for 3 nights at the start of April with 2 girl friends celebrating a 21st. We had a triple room and only payed 20€ per person per night (total 180€). It was in a great spot (main reason we chose it) and was perfectly clean with very comfy beds. The only downside was that...

This is a great little hotel near Puerto del Sol. It was close to all the places my husband and I were going to go. The room was small (not shocking since this is Europe), but clean and had a nice brick wall feature that my husband really liked. It has a small, but again nice and clean bathroom. We...

This accommodation is conveniently located in the center of madrid (Plaza del Sol). Simple. Good people running the place. No problems. Only con: they don't have breakfast. They moved me and my family to a small appartment next door from the main building. It was still a decent room with kitchen and everything!

Hostal Madrid has most of what you look for in a hostel. It is in an excellent central location just off the Puerta del Sol in the heart of the city. There are many restaurants from fast food to high end within easy walking distance. There is a taxi stand on the nearest corner, and the metro stop is only...

Three of us stayed in one of the top floor apartments for four nights. This is a great place if you don't mind simplicity, tight quarters and a minute bathroom. Since we didn't spend much time in the room, it worked for us. We did use the kitchenette to cook dinner two nights. The big plus is the location. From...

Hostal Madrid is located between Plaza Mayor and Plaza del Sol - so almost everything worth seeing in Madrid is walking distance. The hostel was clean and the room had everything we needed for the week we stayed there. The reason I'm giving 4/5 is because the walls are super thin, we were so unlucky to have neighbours with a...

Stayed 3 nights in one of the appartments. The location is right near Puerto del Sol, so it is very lively and also noisy. Sirens, rubbish trucks and revellers can keep the light sleeper awake, so would suggest getting a room away from the street. The beds weren't very comfortable and it was difficult to regulate the heating. The apartment...

To say this is a hostel is demeaning, its far better than that..placed perfectly and very easy to get to from the airport, Metro to 'nuevos ministerios' then get the train to 'sol' and its just round the corner from KFC All day underground travel ticket is 8.70 and well worth it to see Madrid properly..Staff at 'Hostal Madrid' are...

I stayed here for a stag do in September. It was perfect for our needs. Clean, cheap and above all else, right in the middle of everything! Tube station round the corner, bars and resturaunts everywhere, you really can't ask for more from a budget hotel. Very friendly and helpful staff too .

My wife and I stayed there 9/12-9/16 for 4 nights for 230 euros. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, willing to spend times for details. The hotel location is great, next to the Sol, close to Plaza Mayor, surrounded by eateries. They also have apartments next door. For similar prices, apartments are much roomy. Rooms with street view could...

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
