Very centrally located hostal close to metro and main attractions. Host is very friendly and helpful providing a map and pointing out main sights and recommending local restaurants etc. Basic facilities but all you could need and very clean and well maintained. I have no...More
This was my third stay at Benamar, the second one with my brother. He and I love to travel and our wives often stay behind--as in this case. The GOOD: Very clean room and bathroom, nicely tiled and painted; very well located for walking or...More
Stayed with two friends in June. Well-priced, clean and the owner was very friendly and catered to our needs. Down a slightly quieter street between Chueca and Malasaña, this hostel is ideally located if you like those two areas. It's near Tribunal metro which means...More
Our introduction to Hostal Benmar, about a 3 minute walk from the Tribunal metro station along Calle de San Mateo, past a dirt lot ringed by wooden benches in need of repair, past a couple of open but uninviting tapas bars, to an unmarked dark-green...More
Stayed here 2 nights with my sister on a city break, a bit difficult to work out the right door at first (a sign would help at bottom of stairs). Good clean room, small but had all we needed and comfortable beds.

Chueca is the hip, gay neighbourhood of Madrid where many of the streets are narrow and intimate, but where the hustle and bustle and the eclectic storefronts and people give it a distinctly urban feel. The main thoroughfare is Calle Hortaleza and the main square is Plaza Chueca, completely filled with terraza tables serving copas (mixed drinks) during summer. A mixture of trendy and grungy, some of the adult businesses
here are explicitly racy in their signage. From the rainbow flags to the signs above the entrances of its many funky bars, to the date spot restaurants, Chueca is a vibrant and colorful place. It's always interesting to explore the different corners of Chueca by day, and by night, the area becomes a major nightlife destination when the clubs open their doors.

"Tribunal" metro station is a 5 minute walk from the Hostal Benamar. From the Airport take the #8 Metro line to "Nuevo Ministerios" and transfer to the #10 line (direction Puerta del Sur). Go three stops to "Tribunal." It's easy and convenient and certainly much cheaper than a cab.
Excellent restaurant: El Cocinillas. 8 calle de San Joaquin. 3 minutes walk from the hostal.
