We had booked a room at the Hostal Cervantes, around the corner, but it and the building next door were under extensive rennovation, and our room was intolerable (noise and dust). The Cervantes' brother runs Armesto and he called and got us the perfect room there. By all means get a room overlooking the interior garden - it was very...

We stayed at Hostal Armesto for four days in May. It was a little more posh than I had expected for the price. The reception area is very nicely appointed, as are the rooms. Our bathroom was clean and well-maintained. We had a large closet and a small writing desk. For the most part it was quiet. The street that...

don't let the exterior fool you, this is a fantastic little hotel!! it is located on the second floor of a building (no elevator thus not accessible to the disabled). the area is pretty quiet; i didn't experience any noise from the street. some rooms face an interior courtyard/garden which is absolutely charming. the rooms/bathrooms are basic but immaculately clean....

I did a lot of reach on this site and chose Hostal Armesto. I rate it highly except for a clacking noise of some sort of machinery somewhere located nearby - it would start in the morning around 8;00 a.m. and last for a half hour to an hour. Other than that the hotel has a lot of pluses...I liked...

Just spent 5 nights at the Armesto. It's very well-located, on the first floor of an old building and within a very short distance of the 3 main art galleries and the bars and restaurants of the Santa Ana area as well as all the lively, bustling places and public transport facilities in the centre of Madrid. However, despite being...

Overall impression: Nice, cozy and super super clean. Well located and quiet althought very central. Puts off: The room we were - near the kitchen - is kind of small and there is no lift (the hostal is @ 2° floor). Luca - Roma

What a lovely suprise. Got a little worried when we pulled up outside what looked to be a building in need of a little tlc. We were met at the door and led upstairs to the first floor where the hostal is situated. This is where the experience began. We were led into the reception area which was lovely and...

Just returned home from a great trip to Madrid, where we stayed at the small Hostal Armesto. The hostal is located very conveniently in the small and quiet Calle San Agustin next to the Spanish parliament and within a short walking distance to Plaza del Sol. The Hostal has eight rooms of which some are facing the garden. Apparently these...

Staying in Huertas

Neighbourhood Profile
Also known as Barrio de las Letras, Huertas was once home to prominent literary figures, Miguel de Cervantes and Lope de Vega among them. The neighbourhood is committed to celebrating its rich heritage: Calle Huertas itself is inlaid with quotes from celebrated authors, street names pay homage to them, and second-hand bookshops pervade. Huertas receives a fair amount of spillover from the center — side streets around Plaza Santa Ana take on a foreign party atmosphere at night, and you always see young backpackers navigating the streets — but as you descend into the neighbourhood, everything becomes a little more cramped and slightly less refined, and takes on more of an underground feel. Live music is at the heart of Huertas: by night, its subdued bars are ideal for meeting friends, sipping cocktails, and chatting quietly while enjoying jazz or singer-songwriter performances.
