The rooms are very nice for the price. The location is right on the plaza del sol which is great for location but may annoy some with noise levels. The square is bustling until the small hours. It is cooler now in Madrid so having windows open wasn't a problem. Really enjoyed the place.

Probably there are prettier places and more quiet as well. But none of them are located so centrally and close to everything. The rooms are very spacious, the beds are big and comfortable. The rooms at the Puerta del Sol site have small balconies. There are many restaurants just around the corner, so are the shops, museums and bars.

The third time we have stayed at this Hostal. We have always found it very welcoming. Staff always very helpful and nice. Very clean. Good continental breakfast. Excellent coffee.. Very central. Walk to most places in central Madrid. At times Puerta del Sol can be a little noisy at night, but a small price to pay for being so central....

The location right at Puerta del Sol was a double-edge sword. It is good to be near all the attractions; only 5-15 minutes walk. But the Spanish never sleep. We woke up several times in the night and there were still many people in the square and making lots of noise. It didn't help that there was no air-con, so...

So cute and comfy. Great idea to stay here for a busy weekend in the city. It's easy to come and go and the location is perfect. You are right between two beautiful parks, museums, amazing food and drinks, and there is always some sort of entertainment right in the Sol Plaza

Plusses: situated right in the center, within walking distance to many sights (Prado, Opera, Plazas), room spotless, good beds, friendly and familiar atmosphere. Breakfast ok for 3 euros. Great chance to practise your Spanish since hostal personnel hardly able to speak decent English. Minusses: loud environment, so impossible to sleep with window open; strong smell of chlorex in the room....

Hostal Riesco was so cute, clean, friendly and excellently located. I will recommend this place to my friends and other travellers. It is located right on Puerta del Sol, two steps from the metro and yet on the corner of a quiter street. My room was bright, spacious and with an excellent wide compfortable bed. Highly recommended.

We stayed here for 3 nights at the end of our trip and were quite pleased with it. And it's great value for the money. I found the people on the front desk very helpful and friendly. The rooms were clean and spacious - our bathroom was quite small, but adequate. Everyone seemed to be aware that they needed to...

Even at booking online, a big red message explained we had to be quiet. Little did we know how quiet. Yes we travelled on a lads' holiday. Yes there was a group of 10 of us. However, no we didn't spend any more time than absolutely required in the hostel and no, we didn't make any mire noise than snoring...

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
