Located on Puerta Del sol, steps away from metro n train station, very close to the plaza mayor. In fact most of the tourists attractions were within walking distance. Place it self is adequate and as advertised. Run by an efficient lady.

Hotel staff is extremely helpful and friendly, rooms are clean and comfortable. Great location in the heart of the city, Metro station Sol is just in front of the building. A lot of nice restaurants and bars near to the hotel. Very easy connection to airport. Great value for money!

This is a great small Madrid hotel right on Sol Plaza which is an important metro stop as it is right in the middle of everything. Just one block from Plaza Mayor and close to a ton of interesting places. The people at the hotel were very nice and the hotel was clean and comfortable.

The hotel is very nicely located at Puerta del Sol. It is within walking distance to many of Madrid's important sites. The rooms are clean and fairly spacious. Excellent views! Cons: The entrance and lobby area need to be fixed up. The air conditioning is controlled from the lobby by the manager. If you need information or directions the manager...

Slap bang in the centre of Madrid, with balconies overlooking the main square. The room was fresh, clean and a good size. The bathroom was modern and the shower had good heat and pressure. All staff were friendly and helpful. The balcony doors actually shut out alot of the noise from the square, and we had no problems sleeping.

Great central location, yes there are people in the square at all hours but I didn't have trouble with noise in the room. The room was clean and much bigger than I was expecting. The bed was very comfortable and the wifi worked perfectly. I didn't buy the breakfast, so I can't speak to that. There is a historic bakery...

With a rather shaky internet connection where we were staying prior to Madrid, I found and booked this Hostal in a bit of a rush – no deposit required. Arriving in the city, we walked from Estacion Atocha in about 20 minutes and there it was right on the square at Puerta del Sol. The square is buzzing all the...

We have stayed at Hostal Riesco for 3 nights in the middle of September. It is a very good choice to explore the city, you can walk to all major attractions, no need to use metro or bus. Our room was pretty small, but adequate for our needs, and very clean. Small bathroom, but not too small as to become...

With easy access to the Metro (and airport) and just around the corner from all the buzz of the Puerta del Sol, this hostel gave us all we needed for our stopover in Madrid. Lots of restaurants, bars and shops on the doorstep. Our room was comfortable, though the en suite a little compact; for the price it was perfect!...

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
