Just got back from a long weekend in Madrid. Stayed at this hotel for 4 nights, the location was excellent - just off Gran Via with its shops and restuarants and so close to the Palace, Opera House and to the Madrid City Tours stop. BUT this is definitely not a 4 star hotel - the lounge / bar and...

We came back from a long weekend staying at this hotel. I would not class it as a 4 star. We arrived Friday morning and checked in at midday. We were given a room on the first floor overlooking the front of the hotel. The room had a leaky radiator that dripped all night and the walls were so thin...

The hotel has to be renovated completly, some rooms are in very poor shape. Also the linnens are very old and should be changed for more modern stuff. The bath room do not have all the "goodies" of a 4 star hotel, even not of a 2 star hotel. The breackfast was fine and the reception staff was OK.

The hotel is in a good location as its central and very near a metro station. The reception staff were quite rude and abrupt and we had to press them for details like where our room and the lift were! Room was average and reasonably clean.

I stayed here with my partner during for two nights and mother in law. I used my best western reward points so didn't actually have to pay. However i'm surprised that this hotel is 4* - it really should be 3*. Its very dated and lacks 4* facilities Our rooms were large, clean and next to each other. The hotel...

I'll start off with the positives: The hotel is centrally located. It's very close to many exciting attractions (all within short walks), it's just steps from the Metro, and there are a ton of food options in the area. It's only a few feet away from Gran Via. I wasn't worried about the location at all as there are plenty...

As with many hotels, this one is a question of understanding how much you've paid and what that entitles you to. The good: # Fabulous location, 30 metres from Gran Via and 5 minutes walk from the Real Palace, Plaza Mayor etc. # Large, clean room (although 2 twins pushed together rather than the requested double # Large bathroom with...

Interiors a bit shabby Front desk very helpful (had a difficulty explaining them about lunch basket though - you should say "picnic" :) The shower lever was broken - scalding hot water - but they fixed it quickly enough The nearby stripbar is not really THAT noisy (anyway it sinks in the general nightly noise of Gran Via cars :)...

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
