We stayed one night at the Lope de Vega hotel and although we have never stayed in Madrid before, I would not choose this hotel again, other than for its location. Our room was small (although this is often the case in city hotels) with paper thin walls, so much so we could hear next doors wake up call at...

We just returned from a four-night stay at Lope de Vega. I need to return to Madrid in a few weeks, and I will probably stay there again. You can't get any closer to the Prado, yet it's on a quiet side street. It's an easy walk to Atocha train station to the south or Plaza de Cibeles to the...

We stayed at Lope de Vega in December 2011 and are heading back next month. The location could not be better: three minutes walk to the Prado, ten minutes or so to the Atocha railroad station, and eight on the edge of the old part of town with its restaurants and fun places to walk. The staff is very competent...

My family of three stayed at the Hotel Lope De La Vega this past June 2012 for 5 nights total--three nights at the start of our 2 week trip to Spain and then 2 nights at the end of our trip. The hotel staff was warm and welcoming from the start-- they let us check in early after an overnight...

Could we get any closer to the Prado?? I liked: the eagerness of the front staff; the tile floors; the nice firm mattress; the in-room fridge and safe; WiFi; superb typico desayuno; TV; quiet room; apples on the hallway table.

Stayed here for four nights and it was a pleasant stay. Only complaint is that at times you can hear your neighbors. Front desk staff was helpful and friendly. Bed and pillows were fine, room a little tight, but adequate for the stay. We were pleasantly surprised that you could pay 5 euros for a continental breakfast and it was...

We loved the location of this hotel. It was very clean, the staff were friendly and our room was excellent. In the daytime we walked to the Prado (two minutes away), the Botanic Gardens (five minutes) and the Reina Sofia (about 15 minutes walk) . In the evenings we enjoyed the excellent streets of little tapas bars two minutes in...

Staying in Huertas

Neighbourhood Profile
Also known as Barrio de las Letras, Huertas was once home to prominent literary figures, Miguel de Cervantes and Lope de Vega among them. The neighbourhood is committed to celebrating its rich heritage: Calle Huertas itself is inlaid with quotes from celebrated authors, street names pay homage to them, and second-hand bookshops pervade. Huertas receives a fair amount of spillover from the center — side streets around Plaza Santa Ana take on a foreign party atmosphere at night, and you always see young backpackers navigating the streets — but as you descend into the neighbourhood, everything becomes a little more cramped and slightly less refined, and takes on more of an underground feel. Live music is at the heart of Huertas: by night, its subdued bars are ideal for meeting friends, sipping cocktails, and chatting quietly while enjoying jazz or singer-songwriter performances.
