The NH Madrid Atocha, fully renovated, is perfectly for Madrid's 'Art Triangle' - the Prado, Reina Sofia and Thyssen Bornemisza museums are all within 10 minutes' walk. So is a whole host of shops, tapas bars and sightseeing spots. Our location opposite Atocha Station really handy for getting from anyway.

Simple and basic but good for a stopover if you need to catch the train at Atocha Station. Hotel is nice and clean but rooms are small so beware, if you need 1000sqm for yourself this might not be your place. Entrance is a bit weird and you need to go downstairs with your luggage or take a lift for handicapped people that takes so long that you might as well save yourself one night stay and sleep on your way down. Nice staff.

I was very happy to stay here , it was quiet at night in my room and there was a very pleasant ambience, the breakfast and breakfast service was good. All in all I'd say the hotel was very good value and I would stay again.

Late arrival from Madrid -Barajas Airport on 18 July. This small hotel faces the Madrid Puerta de Atocha Station. You enter the front entrance and down some steps to a small reception desk. The check in and out was swift by friendly receptionists. My room on the second floor with a balcony was very clean, compact with adequate toiletries. For a small hotel, it has two sizeable breakfast rooms which was bright, clean and spacious! Due to the pandemic, you must queue and get served breakfast. There was a fair selection of breakfast and served by a friendly staff. This hotel offers an ideal location for the railway station. When you exit the hotel, turn left and walk a few yards on the pavement and you will see the traffic lights which would take you across the road. Walk straight on and you will get to the entrance of the station. A must stay for convenience!!

I booked this hotel for its proximity to Atocha train station. To get there, I took the train from the airport to Atocha station, cost 3.10 euros. The hotel is really easy to find from the station as it is located directly across the road from the station’s clock tower, so, following the footpath & pedestrian crossing, approx 3 to 5 minutes walk, depending on whether the traffic lights are in your favour or not. I arrived at around 12.00 & was not expecting my room to be ready as check in is from 15.00. However, I was told that if I wanted to take a seat in the breakfast dining area in the foyer & relax, my room would be ready soon. Just 10 minutes later I was called to reception, room ready. A quick, friendly check in when all info on Wi Fi, breakfast & check out times were given along with a free city tourist map. With room keycard in hand (also needed to activate the room electricity), I was quickly in the lift & on my way up to my 3rd floor non smoking/non vaping room. Not a bad size for a room booked as a single. It was clean, bright & modern with laminate floor, 2 single beds, wall mounted tv, work desk & chair, usb points, luggage rack, smoke alarm, wardrobe, full length mirror, safe, minibar, air con & plenty of spare electrical sockets. There was a balcony which overlooked the very busy road as, my room was facing the train station. Probably nice to sit out in the summer but too cold in February. A large window & sliding door to the balcony meant the room was bathed in an abundance of natural light. A little bit of traffic noise from outside but nothing too annoying & no issues with noise from inside the hotel. My room was next to the lift & I can honestly say that I did not hear it once during my stay. Wi Fi was free, password activated & easy to connect to but was very slow with download speed in the room of just 1.87 mbps & upload speed of 0.96 mbps. Another issue that I had with it was that it did not auto reconnect whenever I returned to the hotel after being out & about. I was a little bit surprised that there was no tea/coffee making facilities in the room. Minibar prices……still & sparkling mineral water, coca cola & zero, orange juice, orange & carrot juice, imported & Spanish beers & red wine = 3.50 euros. Cava = 8.00 euros. Toasted almonds = 6.00 euros. Potato crisps, Oreo cookies & chocolate snacks = 3.50 euros. Jelly sweets = 6.00 euros & energy bars = 3.50 euros. My bathroom was a really nice size, clean, stylish & contemporary with tiled floor & walls, large shower cubicle, fixed large rain head shower & smaller handheld rain head shower & hose with great pressure & plenty of hot water, large mirror, wall mounted hairdryer, wall vent, small bottles of shower gel, shampoo & body milk, small bar of soap, shower cap, dual voltage shaving socket, electrical socket, stool, plenty of towels, heated towel rad & shaving/cosmetic mirror. Breakfast, served from 07.00 to 10.30 Mon – Fri, 08.00 to 11.30 on Sat & 08.00 to 12.00 on Sun, was excellent. I went for breakfast at 09.00 & there were only 2 people there already, though it got busier after that. Self service continental buffet with a big selection including cereals, toast, breads, cold meats, cheeses, boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, fried eggs, yoghurts, whole fresh apples & oranges, sliced fresh kiwi, orange, pineapple & melon, nuts, seeds, dried fruits, biscuits, a huge range of pastries & sweets, coffee, tea, flavoured teas & fruit juices. There is a pc & printer, for guest use, located in the foyer/breakfast area. I had time to kill after checking out & went for a walk, leaving my travel bag in the ticketed, secure left luggage room that staff only are permitted to enter. Checking out was quick, friendly & hassle free. The hotel’s location is excellent, as previously mentioned, across the road from Atocha train station but also, just seconds away from the Ministerio Agricultura building. Really close by are a number of museums including Reina Sofia & Prado, parks & the botanical gardens. Plaza Mayor is approx 20 minutes walk away. In just a few minutes walk are numerous shops, cafes, restaurants, McDonalds, Burger King, kebab, Asian, pizza & burger places. So many positives & the very few negatives were just minor & so, I can highly recommend this hotel for a short stay in Madrid.

This 3 star NH hotel is very well located next to atocha station ( rail and metro). We arrived with the high speed train from valencia at 11.30 in the morning and could already use the room. Excellent. Bathroom was nice with a good rainshower. Breakfast was good. On the downside: the rooms are very small. If you have large suitcases it won’t be easy to find a place for them. And, since it was winter ( februay 22) the airconditioning was switched off ( we thought it was broken so we asked them to fix it. They told us it was switched off in winter) Because the outside temperature at daytime was around 25 degrees the room became very hot. We had to open the windows at night to cool down. But, you’re next to a busy railwaystation so there’s always a lot of traffic and noise. Pennywise but pound foolish.
