This hostel is great if you're looking to spend a few days of fun in Madrid with friends. The rooms are very clean and fairly comfortable, and its location is privileged, just a few meters away from Puerta del Sol. There are plenty of restaurants and bars around, and the price/quality relation is excellent. The only thing is, if you...

Stayed for weekend. Hard to find so got a taxi from bus. Very central free tour and mini bar. Rooms small but clean and maids visit daily. They gave us maps which you definatly need if first time very busy place and easy to get lost.

I was browsing the internet looking for a hotel and came across JC Rooms Santa Ana. So glad I did! From the moment I booked via e-mail the hotel was really helpful, answering any queries I had promptly. We stayed in the room 'Castilla Leon'. OK, it was small but really well appointed and spotlessly clean. I loved the funky,...

The best thing about this hotel is the location. It's very central so all attractions are within walking distance, and the Sol metro stop is a 2 minute walk away, and it's in an area surrounded by really great bars and restaurants right on your doorstep. Although the area is very busy and lively, we never heard any street noise...

The rooms are pretty big for a hostel and you have propper beds and not only the bunkbeds. Big rooms and good beds to an affordable price in the middle of the city. the toilets are not big but very clean and a wonderful shower. Very helpful staff.

First impression was quite bad, not easy to find, and a buzzer that leads to a hall, the reception was on the second floor, and with no elevator and two heavy suitcases it was quite a walk. The woman in the reception was great, the room was nice, but a bit worn. A great place to stay, secure and a...

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
