We spent 4 nights at this hotel on late November. Although we are Marriott Platinum member, this was our first time at an Autograph hotel. We never had difficulties to guarantee the bed type at Marriott.com, but here we had to send an email after booking, because the bed type wasn’t guaranteed online. We were concerned about some hotel reviews... More

Perhaps having come from La Residencia in Deia, Mallorca our standards are too high. However, as Platinum for years Marriott members in transit to US and overnighting in Madrid, the expectation for a "free" room is better than this. There is a very pervasive smell of mold and sewage in the bathroom, poorly masked by scent. It's one night and... More

This was a great hotel for our three night stay in Madrid. Our room, directly on a back patio was luxurious and beyond our expectations. First, the bedroom was very large, and the bathroom, probably the largest we have ever had in a hotel. It was extremely quiet, with a most comfortable bed, all of which contributed to a restful... We spent two nights in a superior room in this beautiful former house of a duke and very much enjoyed our stay. Although, the hotel is central enough located, it is situated in a calm and elegant part of the city Madrid. The rooms are spacious and stylish and offer every amenities that are expected on a 5 star level.... More

This hotel used to be the palace of a duke in Madrid. It is truly a grand building. The ceiling in the main rooms are over 20 feet high and the artwork both inside and out is amazing. The conversion to a hotel has maintained the grandeur while adding functionality. Our room was spacious, comfortable, well appointed and very well... More

I liked this property. A lot. I wanted to love it. The property is in a former embassy compound which by its nature makes it so cool. It has a very old world character with a ton of modern upgrades. The location is in a neighborhood just about a 5 minute walk from the main high street. Rooms were reasonably... More

What a delightful hotel. Service was outstanding throughout - welcome by bellman, front desk, concierge, wait staff, housekeeping. It's well located, not far from the metro, right across from the Swedish Embassy, in a beautiful neighborhood. It's quite elegant. My only caution is that you will likely need to negotiate some steps at some point. I only wish I knew... More

The restaurant, saloon, terasse and bar are very stylish and simply beautiful aswell as the rooms. Breakfast is indeed excellent. The stuff is very friendly though often not focused and service is kind of slow. They could give you a bottle of complimentary water per person per day and not just per room and making up the room could be faster...

We really enjoyed our stay at the AC Santo Mauro. It is located in a very neighborhood that is about a 20-30 minute walk to the Palace and the museums. The hotel had been a Duke's mansion and later the Philippine embassy and has some of the most beautiful common areas I have ever had at a hotel. They also... More

We knew this hotel before Marriott owned it and sadly although it remains very beautiful and stylish, it has lost its way on the service front and does not really quite hit the five star experience any more.

Staying in Chamberi

Neighbourhood Profile
Chamberi
Multi-story residential buildings decorated with ornate balconies line the traditional, quiet, and pretty streets of Chamberí. Humble storefronts and neighbourhood taverns are scattered across the lower levels down every block, and here and there, there's a cluster of tables on the sidewalk. It isn't ever crowded, but people are always out, poking into the tiny bakeries, hardware stores, and tobacco shops, or ducking into a bright, unadorned cerveceria to have a coffee or beer by the bar, flip through the paper, and check the sports score. The round Plaza Olavide, where the fairly regular network of streets breaks form, is among the most green and lively spots. Restaurants line its circumference and sought-after outdoor tables fill the center of the plaza, where people relax to the sounds of kids playing and street musicians' tunes.
