very conveniently situated near the palace and city centre. Walking distance. safe at night as I along with wife and daughter returned at night after a Flamenco show. We were happy staying there. Only a bit noisy as lots of traffic.

Booked this hotel through British Airways website since although there were a couple of bad reviews, it sounded good on the whole. Being a light sleeper I contacted the team first to request a room on an upper floor. On arrival we were warmly greeted by the staff on reception, who throughout the weekend, were all extremely helpful. Our room,...

Having stayed at Hotel Opera in Rome, I was disappointed with the hotel in Madrid. It was far from chic and cool from the Roma version - it looked like an old hotel that was re-branded under the Opera umbrella, but without the same chic and service levels. The location is great, being very close to Puerto del sol square...

Solid 4 star hotel Close enough to everything yet far enough from the massive crowds of plaza sol. If you don't have the breakfast included in your stay the 15 eur/pp is not a good deal. Just go to the cafe downstairs. We found the walls very thin, We could hear everything going on in both adjoining rooms, bring earplugs....

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
