I just had the misfortune of staying for a night here owing to BA cancelling my flight. The stay didn't start well when I was first offered a dingy damp and stinking room complete with a dehumidifier. After refusing this room I was offered another much smaller room this time stinking of cigarettes. After another trip downstairs I was finally...

HOTEL’S FAVOURITE REVIEW

We stayed at this hotel as we didn't want to pay a fortune for 5 star luxury when all we would do would be sleep there. The price was reasonable and when we arrived we saw that the location was fantastic. Within walking distance of so many attractions. We got the Linea Express airport bus to cibeles (5 euro per...

Some of the reviews I've read of this hotel have surprised me, particularly with regard to outdated features. It makes me wonder if the hotel is undergoing a staged refurbishment as the room we stayed in on the 6th floor was very modern and excellently fitted. The room was spacious and light and the bathroom was outstanding. We were also...

A colleague and I arrived to be told that there was only one room available out of the two that booked. On turning down their offer to share a double bed, they they proceeded to randomly ring around other hotels in the area to no avail. I'm sure there are unfortunate circumstances that result in hotels being put in this...

This hotel is central, located on a very busy noisy street. However the hotel is dark and outdated. Do not believe the images you see on the website. They also took full payment up front when we checked in. I now know why . . . .they are worried people will check out once they see their room.

We stayed here during a winter stay in Madrid. The hotel itself was in a prime location for all the tourist spots and perfect for experiencing the hustle and bustle of the Madrid crowds. The nearest metro is a short walk up Gran Via. The hotel is very clean and luxurious, although I was not very impressed with the gym...

I use this hotel for business. Its only a short taxi ride from the airport, and staff are superb. The foyer is very underwhelming and really could do with modernising, but the rooms are really rather impressive. I've had one facing the inner atrium which was very quiet, and one facing the side street which was a much bigger and...

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
