Negatives - door staff are very rude - key cards stopped working 3 times in a 2 night stay - room phone are from the 1970s and could not call reception causing us to not have any drinks in the room - bed is 2 singles shoved together and not bonded so you always fall down the crack. No duvet provided either Positives - 360 bar has amazing views

I loved this hotel, the staff is just amazing. It is very clean and Covid prepared, the room is very comfortable with a wonderful mattress and a very modern bathroom. The rooftop bar must be one of the best in the World (Thank you Jesus, Aday and Andrea for your kindness). Breakfast is also very good and most of all, not only the hotel is overall excellent, it’s also great value and very well located. Will be back!

I came to stay at the Riu for 10 days, The rooms are basic and there is a club on the top floor and the music is so loud it feels like the ceiling is going to collapse with the noise and the vibration. It’s awful , Iv never experienced anything like it Also the AC does not work in any of the rooms and it gets extremely hot and unbearable. The staff are very friendly however I will never stay here again

Overall the hotel is very nice and the location is excellent. I had a bad experience with management I would like to share. I have never had a bad experience in a hotel prior to this, so it came as a big shock. I naively assumed that laundry was a service the hotel offered internally and without charge (if this is not common then I apologize as I genuinely was unaware). I placed my laundry in a bag and was called when it was ready, I would also like to clarify that this was predominantly gym gear that didn't need to be ironed. When I went down to reception I was given a bill for 136 euro. 136 euro is more than the nightly rate of the room, and having used launderettes in the past (albeit not through a hotel) I felt that this price was completely extortionate. I had not filled out any forms asking for my laundry to be ironed, simply just placed the laundry in a bag. Naturally, given the fact I assumed this would not have a charge, I was shocked and angry. I explained the situation to a manager who agreed to cut the cost of the service, to which I agreed (albeit with some frustratIon). However, a more senior manager came down and was extremely rude, eventually forcing me to pay the full price and threatened to call the police if I didn't pay. I genuinely did not think this would come with a cost, and this really dampened my experience of the hotel. What I found most annoying and disappointing was that the manager was content with his company making a profit off a service that a customer mistakenly accepted, with no interest in negotiation and a threat to call the police. To me, that is terrible customer service and the least the hotel could have offered is to reduce the cost of the service to the cost they paid (which the first manager was kind enough to do), so that the customer would be satisfied and the hotel would not lose money. I spent a total of 9 days in this hotel at a decent cost, it is now clear that particular senior manager has no interest in customer satisfaction. I'm not in the habit of writing bad reviews, and I have genuinely never used a laundry service through a hotel so maybe it was foolish of me to expect it to be free. However I also found it really disrespectful and rude the way this manager had no sympathy or understanding for the amount of money I had already spent in this hotel, and for the genuine mistake I made.

Dear Sean, Thank you for sharing your concerns. It sounds like there were a couple issues during your stay, and we do sincerely apologize for the negative experiences you experienced with the laundry service. As usual, the price list for laundry services in hotels is included inside the laundry bags our housekeeper provided you. Furthermore, please note on our website, and anywhere you can book our hotel we do not indicate that we offer free laundry service. We are very sorry that you missed this information, and to hear that we did not leave you with extraordinary memories of our hotel. It is never our intention to provide anything but a great experience to our guests. We hope we can welcome you back in the future. Warmest Regards, Hotel Riu Plaza España Online Reputation Manager

ROOM 1204 04.04.2021 - 10.04.2021 Deluxe Superior King Room with Terrace. This is a 4 stars rated hotel, quite new, where you can feel and touch that they are incredible focused on making as much money as possible (obviously they are a business) and cut as much costs as they can. let's start start with the check in process, as mentioned in the reception the 580 rooms hotel was at maximum allowed capacity due to the pandemic situation. anyway at 10:45pm there were 2 people in the reception doing, check ins, customer service, answering the phone for the room service... They do not work with a charge cover in your credit card, they just ask you if you want to spend some money in the hotel they have to make you an additional charge and that will be used as credit, at the end if there is something left it will be reimbursed. Room was nice, looked clean, but poorly maintained, the shower head was broken, the gel dispenser was coming out every time, the towel hanger was broken and never repaired. After the first night we asked for two things, slippers sorry we do not have them (really?) and to provide two separate duvets in the bed. this was very funny, as I explained the request in Spanish (I am Spanish) it took forever for them to understand the request. Once it was understood it had to be executed (it is putting two separate duvets in a bed, not sending a skyrocket to Mars) someone put an extra sheet in the bed and left a blanket in the couch. Afterwards, we came to the room and a supervisor together with the housekeeping came to verify that the difficult mission of putting two separate duvets in a double bed was successfully implemented, the housekeeping person explained (unfortunately lying) to her supervisor that she put 2 duvets one on top of the other, at night we realized that it was not like that, there were two bed sheets on the bed, one blanket underneath one sheet and a second blanket in the couch. we just stopped explaining and requesting this because it was clearly a very complicated mission that maybe only NASA can achieve. We had a meeting in our room with a client, we come thru the main entrance, inform that we have 2 extra guest who will stay in the room for a couple of hours and then the fun starts: -ok sir, guests are allowed in the room but you have to go to the terrace separate reception, register our guests and pay for one (out of two) 10 Eur to be allowed in your room (WTF?). there we go, out of the building to the separate entrance with a 70-80m long queue to go to the roof top terrace, luckily as we were guests we had only to wait for 5 minutes. then we are informed that to bring two guests to our room they do not have to pay and they have to be registered in the main reception. I ask them to please put their Sh... together and be sure where I have to go because they are sending me from one place to the other. finally, after 15 minutes of discussion (maybe this was also a difficult mission only achievable by the NASA or Elon Musk) they registered our 2 guests in the main lobby and we were allowed to go upstairs to our room. Espresso machine in the room (not Nespresso) What else? why giving your guests an espresso machine in they room to have a morning coffee before they go for breakfast? better let's leave a kettle (because it was very typical in the 90s) 1 bottle of water (for a 6 nights stay) and coffee powder, did I mention that they are very into cost reduction? They have a nice rooftop terrace that additionally is a very profitable business, 10Eur for non hotel guests, plus cocktail prices at Swiss levels (I live in Switzerland and pay less for a cocktail than here) with a very unprofessional service: As I mentioned I allowed the hotel to charge me an amount of money to cover my extra expenses in the hotel, cool I can go to the rooftop have a 16 Eur Gin & tonic and charge it to my room, well not really. Sir there is no credit in your room, you have to pay in a different way (first blame the customer, RIU customer service training 101). please check with reception as I authorized a charge in my card for these things. back and forth a couple of times checking difficult things, and finally a supervisor came to say that it was already fixed. Another difficult mission achieved Wifi, because complicating things is cool, we had different reservations and the wifi code was valid only for one day until the point that they told us: this code it will be valid till your checkout day (guess what? it was valid for one day, let's stop asking and just use our roaming, anyway we come from Switzerland they think we are rich) Amenity Kit in the toilet, was refilled once, at a random day, when we requested extra extra cotton buds they brought extra hair conditioner, that we were not using or touching for a week. All previously mentioned points were addressed to the hotel and they did absolutely nothing to amend them. Bottom line, next time I will go somewhere else, as there are many other cool options in Madrid
