We stayed in a basic studio apartment on the first floor of the building. The studio was small but nice, and just what we needed for our short three night stay. It was very clean, and there's plenty of lighting and ample wardrobe space. The kitchen area is tiny but well-equipped. The shower wasn't the best (I was scalded by...

This place is well located and the decor etc. is fine. The problem is there is no acoustic insulation either inside or in the windows. There is non-stop noise outside from busses, bin lorries, revelry makers, songsters, flamenco dancers, .... We didn't get a single minutes worth of sleep and I don't imagine anyone else could either. Advice to the...

This actually my first ever review on trip advisor and I had to write it after having one of the worse nights sleep of my life. I checked in for 1 night into an entry level apartment. The apartment itself is adequate and the reception staff are fantastic, not to mention the location is excellent, however I can't give the...

I booked a Plaza Mayor apartment through their VRBO website in January, 2016, for a three-night stay in June, 2016. At the time of booking, they charged me 198 euros deposit. An hour after booking, I received a phone call from a family member which caused me to have to cancel our travel plans. I immediately went back to the...

Good things: amazing location, really close to Plaza Mayor (around 100m), really full equipment. Personnel at the reception during the day (till 6pm). Things that can be improved: acustic insulation - staying in a really center location means even some noise during the night, nothing that can't be tolerated, but some intervention on the Windows could really improve the experience...

The location is ideal. It's within walking distance to everywhere. Plaza Mayor is very interesting with many unique shops and restaurants. The apartment is big. But it is no way suitable for a good stay. There's no telephone. So we had to use our handphone to call the maintenance and reception (rent4days). There was no bath towels and I had...

I got the apartment from rent4days. I believe there are other operators for the other units in the building. This was my 1st trip to Madrid and I didn't know what to expect. Plaza Mayor is a square so no cars can get in. There are many shops facing the square. On the ground floor are the shops and restaurants....

We stayed at Plaza Mayor Deluxe apartment for almost a week and what an amazing place!. We felt like locals every time we pulled out the key to open the main door of such a fantastic historical great location". We didn't use the kitchen facilities at all just because we were surrounded by so many places to eat. We had...

We stayed in aprtment 5B for 3 nights, and Angelica who checked us in was excellent with perfect English. The location of the apartment is superb if you want to be in the absolute centre of the city. Overlooking a very busy square it is perfect for people watching - [as long as you don't mind climbing out of the...

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
