The only reason I didn't give this hostel only 1 star is because it's in a good location. Otherwise, it was awful. We decided at the last minute to stop in Madrid for the night and stayed here because it was supposedly, cheap, nice, and in a good location. It's cheap, however, if you have a car, parking is €30/day....

The hostal cancelled our booking without any notice or explanation. We discovered that knocking their doors! In addition nobody spoke English. The reservation site representative contacted them directly to get any explanation - the same result. If you book them make sure you have another place to stay or a tent.

The view from our room was AMAZING just checked the picture. Place is very clean, spacious and the staff are very friendly. The room we got looked out onto Callao Plaza which is a stunnign sight at night. The room was also a very cheap rate considering where it is situated.

Nice hostel in very good location. The room was small but clean and the hostel is rather old but it is worth of its price. Very good place for people that like to stay in the city center and do not have high requirements.

Avoid this hostal. Its dirty, and the staff are very rude. It is probably the worst hostal i ever visited.

First off the room has no air conditioning, which is intolerable in the 35C+ of the Madrid summer. The "ensuite bathroom" was a partition from the room that was so tiny you couldn't sit on the toilet seat and a cheap sliding door with a gap in it.Also it didn't have proper plumbing so you have to throw your used...

We stayed here for three nights in June 2010. During our trip to Spain we stayed in a dozen or so hostels and Hostal Stella was certainly one of the best. Our room was comfortable, clean and stylishly decorated. Obviously the Gran Via, on which the hostel is located, is a very lively street and some noise did travel to...

Staying in Malasana

Neighbourhood Profile
Hip bars and galleries, independent theaters and music venues, young people with tattoos and funky hair, narrow winding streets — this is Malasaña. Near the center, Plaza Dos de Mayo is a gathering of friends outside bars, dog owners, artists under craft tents, and creative types with notebooks and sketchpads on the plaza’s benches. It may not be as neat and tidy as many other parts of the city, but this only adds to the Malasaña edge. Shops and bars here range from hippie-crunchy to upscale trendy, and on weekends, the streets are bustling around the clock as the nightlife progresses from dinner to bar to disco to late-night food. On the west side of the neighbourhood is the subdistrict called Conde Duque, named after a large pink fort in its center that has been converted into a cultural center for exhibitions and performances. Prettier yet just as edgy, this intimate corner of Malasaña is home to a young international community.
