This was our first time at this hotel and we would recommend it! The location is perfect being just one block off of the Gran Via in Madrid and across the street from Plaza Espana. We had a room on the 9th floor with a view of the royal palace! Easy walking distance to great restaurants and the Plaza Mayor....

Stayed 3 days. Close proximity to museums shopping palace cathedral. Helpful friendly staff. Checked in immediately on arrival in the morning. Windows open to let in fresh air. Big bathroom with a bathtub and shower handle. Pretty sure there was a conditioner in the room but we didn't need it. The only negative- the pillows. Very slim hard and hot

We stayed at this hotel for the first two days of a week long trip to Spain. Arrived at the hotel around 9 am and was able to check in immediately. Friendly desk staff made the process easy. Elevators up to the floor are very small, but there are 3 of them and are quick. The room itself was nice....

Massive room, with a small kitchen. Central location next door to metro station. Friendly and helpful staff. Free Wi-Fi. I am enjoying my stay here. Around the corner there is a convince store for supplies and plenty of cafe etc. Easy to find everything that you need.

EspaHotel Plaza de Espana is an old hotel, but very clean and located at a very convenient spot. The staff is very nice helpful. They were able to let us check in as soon as we got there (in the morning); we really appreciated this as we flew all night from NY to Madrid and were very exhausted. This hotel...

Location is perfect, 100 meters away from Metro Station Plaza España, 30 minutes by metro from Barajas airport, walking distance to some of the higlights of the city like Plaza del Sol, Palacio Real and Mercadito de San Miguel. The Staff was really friendly! we arrived at 01:00am and the guy at the frontdesk was there with a big smile...

The good - location :) - right opposite plaza espana n the best place to start walk of gran via. Close to hop on stop. - breakfast was decent. - hotel gave a little 80's Madrid feel which we found charming. - staff were quite nice. - value for money. - room size. The bad - just a basic hotel...

A charming hotel that offers an excellent breakfast for under €10, so it is well worth adding it onto the hotel cost. The room was an excellent size, with a small kitchen, including a fridge and hotplates and was airconditioned. It offers free Wi-Fi. It is half a block from the Plaza de España Metro and within walking distance of...

A very reasonably priced tourist class hotel. Staff were nice, could be a bit cleaner, but not a real problem. Nice to have a little kitchen. The breakfast is continental, but if you ask they will make you bacon and eggs. Fresh orange juice and coffee is a nice way to start your day. The big plus is the location,...

good price, near the royal palace, 15 mins walk from city centre. Old infrastructure, really needs overhaul, airco equipment noisy (in different rooms same problem), traffic outside can be burden especially when police or ambulances pass by. Hygiene ok, staff very friendly. I would spend a bit more per night and find a different place.

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
