There are a lot of pictures on e.g. expedia about this hotel. But none of these were from our room which was less nice than these on the official pictures. The King size bed was a little too small for us and had only one big blanket. The bathroom was superficially clean but black in the corndes (mould?). You definetely need a phone with internet access to open the main door and to use the elevator, which opens directly in your room! You get a link to a mobile website where you can open the doors and use the elevator via toggles! The main door was not easy to open (with a lot of power)! I got 3 numbers, where only the WhatsApp number worked. The responses of my messages were fast. We were one hour too early at the location so the mobile website was still locked! I needed to call the reception so the website was unlocked one hour earlier for us which was good! The location is great if you want to walk around the gothic quarter.

CHECK-IN/OUT: Thankfully I had read the reviews before hand, and knew that check in was not in the same local as the apartment. I got their shuttle service from the airport, which was not worth it. It was 45Euro, and the driver was late and texted the whole time he was driving. It would have be more like 23Euro if I had just grabbed a cab. I was concerned about catching a cab back to the airport at 4am, but shouldn’t have been as there were lots of cabs even at that hour. THE ROOM: The room was relatively clean, but there was mildew in the shower. The air conditioner drain line was clogged and left a huge puddle that made the floor very slippery. They came and fixed it the next day, and replaced all the towels. They provided a day bed for me, no charge, and were very helpful with working out the details of my stay. AMENITIES/BUILDING: They provide just enough towels, and enough toilet paper to last you two days. But when I asked they gave me more towels. I was told at check in that if the elevator was broken there were stairs I could use to get to my 5th floor apartment. I am very thankful that didn’t happen, because the STAIRS ARE GLASS, and you can see down all the way to the bottom. I’m afraid of heights, and glass stairs are very hard to see making them hard to navigate. COCKROACHES: I didn’t see the cockroach until near my last day there, and ended up bringing the bugs home with me. :( I sent them a picture of a cockroach on the wall, and they thanked me and that was all. LOCATION: Location was a top priority for me, and they place was perfect. I was able to walk to all of the Festival de Mercè events, many were just a block or two away. Getting to the metro and Regional train stations was also very convenient.

I've had an excellent experience with AinB at their other property, but the apartment on the 5th floor of this building is a disaster. With heavy rains, we had water dripping from the ceiling in four places. there was water running down the interior courtyard staircase. The heavy rains in November may have been unexpected for Barcelona, but that doesn't excuse the state of the maintenance. Although the office staff is very friendly, I was not notified of a change of apartment until we arrived on the first night. I did receive a full refund.

Where to start.... The check-in process was fairly painless and friendly. The lobby of the building is cool, as is the elevator that opens right into your room. Then the smell hits you. Somewhere between toxic cleaning products and rotting bodies is how I'd put it. Some smells you acclimate to in time. This is the last thing you'll smell at night and the first thing you'll smell when you wake up. We tried to remain positive. The neighborhood seemed cool. The apartment didn't really seem dirty. Then we found that the kitchen sink didn't have hot water. A little investigation proved that the hot water hose was completely disconnected. Why? Who knows, but I wasn't looking to be a plumber so we just left it. The vanity mirror in the bathroom was....gone. The wall mount and rod was still there, just not the mirror that was once attached to it. Did I mention the smell? The bed was as hard as granite. We tried to get comfortable, but never could. At 4:30am my wife got up and tried to sleep in the vinyl chair instead. No matter, sleep was tough when every 20 minutes there were people yelling, singing, working, etc in the street below. We were on one of the higher floors, but the street noise was LOUD. Granted, the renters can't really control that, but it is a factor for potential renters to consider. And if the hard-as-rock bed and street noise wasn't enough. the iron headboard wasn't attached to the bed or the wall, so any movement caused it to slam into the wall with a loud bang. Just rolling over was a debacle. If the bed, the noise, the headboard weren't all enough to keep you awake, the growl of the old little refrigerator surely would. It was awful. We were thankful when morning finally came, until the jackhammers and construction in the attached building started at 9am on the dot. So we decided to shower and check out early. Wrong. The shower head was half-clogged and shot stray water out at a 90 degree angle into the bathroom. Not worth the fight. The bathroom sink didn't drain, just filled with soapy water every time you tried to use it. Did I mention the smell? Then there's the little things - no amenities whatsoever. No coffee, some coffee maker that takes some obscure pods, no bottled water, 2 ratty towels and one hand towel, one little side table on one side of the bed, the exposed fuses and breakers right over the sink, the blinding ceiling lights that were either ALL on or ALL off with the kitchen light, nowhere to put your luggage, just pretty much a small room where nothing worked and an uncomfortable bed. We checked out early and were thankful that they refunded our unused nights without a fight. We moved about 3 blocks away to the Catalonia Square Hotel which was very close to the same price and the polar opposite in every single way. (See my review of that.) They never even asked what the problem was, why we were leaving early. While I was thankful that I didn't have to explain myself, I was disappointed that they didn't even care enough to want to know what they could do better.

We loved our room, the look and location. We could see the buzz of the small street out front which we loved. There were great shops all around and some bars. We were able to get public transportation quite easily, usually from the Arc de Triompf a short walk away. The only two cons for us were, the fact they didn't tell us we needed to check in somewhere else first and the fact that our shower clogged the first night, overflowed flooding the whole bathroom, then they said they weren't coming to look at it until the next day. We were worried about leaking into a lower apartment but it didn't seem to. We had to clean up the water using all our towels. It was quite inconvenient but they did fix it the next day while we were out and it was not longer a problem. We liked the room so much and the location we would stay there again, and probably will.

This apartment had many pros and just as many cons! The location was fantastic, though I was warned by two nearby shopkeepers to keep a close eye on my bags at all times, so guessing it's nots the safest area to stay. I found all of the local shopkeepers very helpful and friendly, even getting discounts at local supermarket. We were able to walk everywhere around Barcelona which was a bonus. Downside: terrible odour in foyer/ not a pleasant entry to the building. The apartment (no 1) was dark and dingy, felt like living in a cave. Showers leaked badly, so floor was constantly covered in water when showering. No hot water in kitchen, and blocked sink for our whole stay. We reported this to housemaid ( whom we only saw once in our 5 day stay), but nothing was done to amend this. Wifi was useless, kept dropping out, so this made communicating w family difficult. For the money, you could find somewhere much better. It was disappointing.

have a look at the photos. see that one from outside, the very nice exterior door? the wrought iron above it? that was our room. a double (2 singles pushed together) and a low camp bed thing. dark, small, almost cute, almost bearable, leaking shower which pooled on the floor, clean bedding, no toiletries at all, a single plug-in hob ring, microwave, fridge, basic washing up equipment but no tea-towel. this "apartment" is quite well located in the Gothic area, hence not the posh end of town. the biggest problem? the noise during the night. the level of the apartment was low, so you could hear every passer-by talking. I thought this was a pedestrianised road (that said, a lot of the gothic area was similar) but no.. industrial vehicles squeeze through, amber lights flashing at our window level (last one I recall was 03:45), about 12" from our window. it was VERY noisy and I barely slept. went to the main AinB office the next day asking to be moved. have to say, the staff were very nice and we got a move to "the quiet part". if you call a major junction, 4 very busy, noisy lanes of traffic meeting 6 lanes "quiet". no, quiet means it's about 100 yards from the prison and not in a tourist area at all! we ended up in 3 AinB apartments over 4 nights, every one a disaster in itself. I'll write the other 2 reviews tomorrow if you'd like to feel my entire pain. just have to say again that the staff were lovely, the 3 apartments we used were definitely not. I complained many times and am hoping for a fair refund.

I will say that the location is awesome, but this apartment is TINY. Smaller than most hotel rooms. "Kitchen" is a joke, with just a small microwave, a hotplate and a mini fridge (oh yeah, there is a coffee maker IF you can find the correct pods). The place is not adequately cleaned (we had a pet mouse), and not serviced at all while you are there. Towels are TERRIBLE.

If you want a poorly maintained, dirty shoebox, this is the place. The photos must be of another property - we could not believe how tiny this apartment was - website says 35m2 - this is a LIE. Not only was the room dirty when we arrived , but a sliding door didn't lock, the bedside lights didn't work... the list of problems and lack of amenity was startling for the price we paid. The fridge was tiny, nowhere to hang any clothes, no towel rails. ... woeful. We went straight back to reception - which is in another building altogether up the road - inconvenient when there were so many issues, and the guy assured us he would attend to the issues. Later a maintenance man turned up & half fixed some things and told us he would come back to finish - we never saw him again. Halfway through the week I asked when the bed linen would be changed & was told every two days, said well we' ve been here four and no change - told it would be attended to - was not - so went back to complain AGAIN - this time got yelled at for having the temerity to be annoyed. Our sheets were not changed in our 7 day stay and apart from a quick clean on the first day after our inital complaint, no servicing was done. WOEFUL Ainb

Unclean, smelly, room the size of a box! No amenities! Not even hand soap. Looked like know one had bothered to clean the apartment! Bad customer service and generally disappointed. The holiday has ended up being more stressful then fun and not put a great love to Barcelona for me personally. No compensation for having to be moved and messed around and ended up waisting so much time. Avoid at all costs as it's a joke! Expensive and a waste of money!
