We are a couple in our thirties who visited recently and, having never stayed in a B&B before, we were completely charmed by both the owner, Herve, and the rooms! Chez Papa is a bohemian dream and as good as the pictures that made us book. The location is great, the communal breakfast is delicious and the eclectic and colourful...

Chez Papa is a very quirky, arty little place run by a wonderful host, Herve Nadar. As other reviews, this place is perhaps not for everyone. The rooms are bohemian and basic, but the welcome is superb. Breakfasts were good with local, organic foods, and arrival was marked with a nice glass of wine. We bought a bottle! The room...

Rated as one of the top B&Bs in Europe by the Telegraph Newspaper just makes me doubt the sanity of the reviewers. Not good at all but obviously was good once, before it became sadly neglected. It's like living in an art gallery that has never been dusted. We were here a week and wanted to move into a nice...

Full of character but fifty! Grotty bathrooms, basic minimalist breakfast consisting of an espresso cup of yoghurt, a slice of melon, hard toasted bread or brioche, and coffee. Herve is full of fun, and the place is well located. The top floor (fifth floor) villa is dripping in artefacts and random items stuck here and there! Background music which created...

We booked to stay here for our 2nd wedding anniversary. Booked it as we had read the wonderful review in the Guardian. Having booked last year we are shocked and heartbroken that they emailed yesterday to cancel our booking with three weeks notice. The reason given was for a exam in France... After a long night searching for an alternative...

One review says that staying here is like staying with an arty friend. Eclectic, warm & friendly, Herve makes this place. I'd be surprised if you've stayed anywhere quite like here before. Squeaky clean hotel it is not, ratty dusty in fact, but it is a really amazing experience. Herve turned an impromptu evening into the most fabulous 40th birthday...

It is very difficult to do a review on Chez Papa without completing considering the host, Herve Nadar. Herve totally makes this establishment. He is cordial, helpful and simply makes this large city readily accessible. He is fluent in French, Spanish / Catalan and English. He makes every effort to accommodate his guests or at least he did my wife...

Herve was a fantastic host, we felt very welcomed. We felt at home in our beautiful room surrounded by the smell of essential oils. Breakfast was delicious with the best local honey (had to stop myself from nicking the jar), which Herve put on every morning. We enjoyed having breakfast with the other guests and Herve and sharing thoughts on...

I had a fantastic few days staying at Casa Papa. It was like staying with a friend not at a conventional b&b. Casa Papa is quirky but wonderfully charming. Hervé is a superb host and nothing is too much trouble. One evening he cooked the most delicious supper for a few of the guests and then took us salsa and...

We enjoyed our stay here, a nice antidote from some of the more sanitised offerings in a good location convenient for the main attractions and metro. Atmospheric setting in a modernista style apartment block. I would recommend this as first choice inexpensive Barcelona city centre accommodation, unless you are hooked on a bland and corporate aesthetic. A proper bed and...

Staying in Eixample

Neighbourhood Profile
Eixample
Passing through the glorious Plaça Catalunya, you enter the newer city district of Eixample, literally translated as “extension,” which immediately becomes recognisable by its more spacious streets and elegant atmosphere. The main artery of this sizable district, Passeig de Gracia, is lined with high-end international designer stores. Not to be outdone, the glitz and glamour of this zone is perhaps best exemplified by the comfortable and lavish five-star hotels that flank the divine and modernistic buildings from some of the world’s most recognised architects such as Gaudi and Montaner.
