This is our second stay at the Barcelona Universal. The rooms are very nice with a modern flair. There is only a short walk to Las Ramblas or the double-decker city tour bus stops. We really enjoyed the breakfast buffet with it's wide selection of choices. The front desk staff was great and really helpful in answering our questions and...

We just returned from Barcelona and we had stayed in this hotel for 2 nights. First, the location is very convenient. We book this hotel because we are on a cruise and need a hotel close to the port. This hotel situated in the parallel ave. And we can just walk down to the monument of Christopher Columbus to catch...

The hotel is fantastic, but unfortunately not in a great area. The rooms are huge, everything is clean and stylish. The roofdeck provides a nice view and the gym is a great perk. I read other views about the noise level being bad, but since we were in an interior room on the 7th floor, we didn't have that problem...

Second time staying at the Universal, nice staff, nice cool room, nice breakfast, ideal location and good value. The pool on the roof was very refreshing on a hot day and good views of the city, WILL BE BACK next year. Try some of the restaurants just off the rambles and we found that if you eat at the places that do...

The hotel universal barcelona is great, rooms were clean, good size for a 3/4 day city break, decent size bathroom, the decor and interiors are cosy/warm and made us feel comfortable and like being at home. The TV had english channels and a radio system with jazz music so you can listen in the bathroom, really wonderful. Downside of the...

This hotel is in an ideal location, just two streets over from La Rambla. The Paral-lel metro station is located right in front of the hotel. It's about a 20 minute walk to Plaza Catalunya and 30 minutes to the beach. The staff was friendly and very resourceful, however, the 18 euro or so breakfast is not worth it as...

As per above and; very friendly reception. Haven't checked out pool yet but looks promising on pictures. So many restaurants within walking distance that hotel doesn't need one. That's it really but Tripadvisor wont let me post until I've written 200 words :)

We recently stayed for a pre-cruise two nite stay at the Barcelona Universal hotel. It was a very nice place. Our beds were very comfy, large bathroom and the room was quiet. That being said, they did put us in a room with a view of the wine cellar/storage room (below). But being that we were only going to be...

This hotel is a modern, average hotel with average sized rooms and an average bathroom with a bathtub. It's nothing very special but doesn't leave you unsatisfied in anything. It's quite close to Rambla. If you are a light sleeper you will have big trouble sleeping in the rooms facing the street- too much noise at night.

Staying in El Raval

Neighbourhood Profile
El Raval
Once a downtrodden corner of downtown Barcelona, this gritty area has seen a cultural resurgence boasting an excellent nightlife and one of the most multi ethnic spots in the entire city. A sense of humble authenticity protrudes from the many independent record stores, second hand shops, and student bars that seem to light up the streets day and night. The rocking epicenter, the MACBA Plaça, is a modern day forum for bohemian youth, abuzz with the sights and sounds of late-night gatherings and talented skateboarders showing off their latest tricks.
