Great for walkers

There’s so much to say about how great this place is to stay. Firstly, the location is great, you are surrounded by so many places to eat, shops, pharmacies, bars and supermarkets. It’s about a 30 mins walk from here to the gothic quarter and 40 mins walk to the harbour and beach, but there are also plenty of taxis which cost around €10. Our apartment was on the 5th floor and was spot on. The air conditioning kept the whole apartment a cool, comfortable temperature and we had a balcony to which overlooked the tree lined street below. The kitchen had everything we needed with a dishwasher that we didn’t use. The bedrooms are spacious and the beds are comfortable. The bathroom had a lovely power shower and a washing machine which is useful. We needed some extra towels and a sweeping brush which the staff promptly brought to us as soon as we asked. For a family of four with two teens, this was a perfect place to stay.

Such a wonderful place, we travelled with our 2 sons (18 & 22). Absolutely spotlessly clean, with kitchen facilities which again of a really high standard. The check in is done via a screen in reception which was great, left the room key in the receptacle - easy! Great location, we walked to the main square and had wonderful tapas. Lovely lounge and dining area, flatscreen tv.

I stayed in their 2nd location (Concepcion), and I loved it!
I found this place by chance, and the only reason I booked my stay with them is because they belong to the Majestic Hotel Group. I thought this is a sign of the quality and reliability. They were also considerably cheeper than Majestic Hotel itself, while the photos were showing the decent room space and great location. Well, I didn't expect much, though. So, let's talk.
Pros: Location is great. Apartment is big, quiet, clean, has everything I need. Personnel was very friendly (even when they didn't speak English at all).
Cons: I couldn't quite understand why I don't have any sheet below (next to) the blanket (probably, it was a simple mistake of the housekeeping). The decking of the terrace was worn out and desperately needs to be fixed. The curtains were dirty and not properly attached. The bathroom amenities were very basic and below the 4-star hotel level.
Now, the verdict is still: I LOVED staying there (see pros). I will consider this place as my first choice, when I return to Barcelona. As a matter of fact, I don't think I want to stay anywhere else. Nothing beats the calmness and the quietness of your spacious room at Murmuri.

Spectacular location and close to Passetge de Gracia yet in a quaint residential and quiet street. Lovely restaurant and priced well next door.
We stayed in room M21 and had several Issues with apartment heating and hot water. Although the residence support was 24/7 we felt for the price of the apartment the heating and hot water issues were significant and not addressed appropriately to ensure a satisfied rating and experience.
Breakfast was included in our rate but we couldn’t select the options. Instead food was delivered at the end of each day for the next morning and sandwiches would result soggy or not good to enjoy. We ended up canceling the service two days prior to departure with no refund provided and told it was part of our “special rate”. I do recall paying more for the room to include the breakfast.
Overall I would’ve stayed here again if returning to Barcelona - but not sure I will with all the options available at this price point.
Sadly disappointed

There was a green flashing light on the phone and a really bright alarm clock by the bed - fine I put cushions over these/unplugged them but the green light in the ceiling cast this awful unnatural shadow over everything. Don’t care if it’s fire regs, the designers needed to be more considerate of where they put this. As a result of this and poor soundproofing I had a horrendous night’s sleep. That plus the automatic sensor on the bathroom tap and I was not a happy customer. If you have a dark bedroom to sleep at home you will not appreciate this hotel.

We stayed 4 nights at this place. The check in was fully digital and uncomplicated because we arrived after midnight. Our appartment had 2 bedrooms and a living room annex kitchen. Modern and tidy.
Every afternoon they put the boxes with breakfast in front of the door of the appartment. This cardboard Box contained a simple but ok breakfast.
Only the endcleaning is included. Location is very good!

We stayed for two night (myself, my husband and our 2 yr old). Great check in, Roberto was so friendly and took our luggage the short walk from the hotel over to the apartments for us. The apartment was neat and tidy, a little tired - we were under the impression we would have an en-suite and a bathroom but had just the bathroom to which both doors were broken so was a bit awkward using the toilet and being able to see the kitchen 🤦🏻♀️😂- we notified them upon checkout as didn’t want any hassle during our stay as was only 2 nights. Kitchen was well equipped, beds and bedding were comfortable, street was very quiet and pretty with orange trees lining it. Felt safe due to the key cards and coded access through the front gates and main door. Upon checkout they looked after our luggage and we had drinks in the bar which were great. Again staff sorted our transfer back to the airport and carried our bags which was so kind. Would love to rate 5 stars but the cleanliness or rather tiredness of the shower and bathroom held me back however we would definitely book to stay here again!

We've rented apartments through hotels.com before. Everything was clear this time too, the only uncertainty was how to get the key in and with the accommodation had no reception I contacted hotels.com via email to inquire about how to get a key. I was answered that getting the key without the front desk also seemed strange to the representative of hotels.com! No clarification. We came up, had to call to solve the key question. Got eventually got us in and the holiday could begin. Very nice apartment recommended. A wash that was almost tight and a few other little things that make me not give top ratings. But fantastic neighborhood where we had the vast majority of amenities within walking distance. We will be happy to come back, at least now that we know how to solve the key issue.

During the entire stay it was impossible to sleep. Every single night the alarm of the hotel was going off intermittently. Nobody cared to fix it. Extremely noisy during the day as well due to works in the area.

This is no longer called Palou Suites, although it must've been in the past (see older Tripsdvisor reviews). Also, it's listed along within "bed and breakfast" category places, which it is not.
I'll start with the many "positives." That includes customer service, which can make or break a stay. One person can lift a review from "very good" to "excellent." In Mr. Carlos Tito, Hotel Murmuri and its affiliated Mercader Flats are lucky to have a staff member who truly goes "above and beyond." Scheduled to arrive during this summer's taxi strike, I had questions about airport-to-hotel transport. Mr. Tito not only emailed immediate replies, but also, during the four nights prior to my arrival, sent updates on strike status, whether a car would be possible, which airport bus to take, at which stop to leave the bus, how the usual route was altered, and even emailed a detailed map. He was gracious, funny, and worked hard to ensure arrival on my first visit to Barcelona would go smoothly. During my stay, I went to thank him personally, but he was attentively focussed on getting a large late-arrival group settled into their rooms. If anyone reading this is lucky enough to meet him, your stay will start off perfectly.
The apartment building is a 3 minute easy walk from check-in at Hotel Murmuri. Roberto of the front desk staff helped my grandson with multiple heavy suitcases. I doubt staff enjoys this task, especially with the 35 C.(95 F.) outside temperatures which Barcelona experienced in August, but Roberto handled it pleasantly, later patiently answering assorted questions. Roberto's day-shift colleague was also helpful and welcoming--apologies for not having noted her name. Our family's thanks to these Murmuri front desk people!
Location is fantastic! It's on a quiet passage in beautiful Eixemple. Like most of the city, public transport is excellent from here. I loved this area, and worried less about Barcelona's infamous pickpockets who work crowds at the beach and in the streets of the Gothic Quarter, El Born, etc. While there are of course tourists in l'Eixemple, it seems an area of more local inhabitants than visitors. There are many places, both casual and formal, for coffee, drinks, meals. Cerviceria Catalana, one of Barcelona's best tapas restaurants, is around the corner from Mercader Apartments, on Carrer de Mallorca.
Entering the Mercader building is via coded security gate. Exiting, you press a different button along the outside stairs. Have the staff show you! From our window, we saw several puzzled guests wondering how to leave, before we pointed to the "secret" button (-:
The apartment itself isbright, high-ceilinged, decorated in black and white. The building's renovated exterior is beautiful; the inside is modern almost to the point of acking "character." On the other hand, sometimes that's exactly what you want. Having just left a month-long Airbnb apartment stay in the Gothic Quarter, my kids were in heaven stepping into the crisp cool modernity of the Murmuri flat.
Although the living/dining/kitchen area was smaller than expected based on website photos, it's adequate. There are loads of electrical outlets for device chargers. The TV includes Netflix (in English) in contrast to places we stayed during this trip had only Spanish language stations. The master bedroom suite with its attached bathroom is great. The other bedroom had both twin and "trundle" beds. Beds are comfortable. Both spacious bathrooms have thick soft large towels, hand-held and "rain shower" sprays, and toiletries (bath gel, shampoos, soap). Water sometimes took a few minutes to warm up, and it took a few tries to figure out the controls. There are heated towel racks. There's plenty of storage area on shelves and/or closets in both bedrooms and bathrooms. The air-conditioner cooling was fantastic in all rooms.he draperies kept the sunlight out of the rooms, the thick windows and ac kept out the heat. Wifi was usually good. The one time it wasn't available, it was fixed by that afternoon. The flat was very quiet, with only rare noise of a door slamming. Despite being the ground foo, we hard no footsteps or voices from above.
Value: Including taxes in peak summer season this two bedroom, two bathroom flat cost $400/night which seemed high until realizing that even basic Barcelona hotels in peak tourist season often charge $200/night for two people in one small room!
Some things that could be improved: There's inconsistency between information from the central reservation office at the Majestic Hotel Group (whose staff were great about answering assorted email enquiries) and what the reality is at the flat. This is a suggestion for better communication between the managers at the group's individual hotels and the central office. For example, I received an email stating there's a shared rooftop terrace for all guests (in addition to the private terrace at a few flats) at the Mercader building. There is no shared terrace(not that we would have used it in the heat.) Although Murmuri and Mercader are part of the Majestic Hotel Group, and I'd read that guests in one facility can enjoy the facilities (rooftop bars, swimming pools, etc) of all the group's hotels, I learned upon arrival that I'd misunderstood: the swimming pool Mercader guests may use is at Hotel Midmost past Place Catalunya at the border of the Barri Gothic (about a 15 minute walk) not at the nearer Hotel Majestic. Checkout time written on my printout from central reservation office was noon; a Murmuri front desk staff member told us checkout was 11:00 a.m. (Since I had the noon checkout time in writing, we advised the hotel we'd be out at noon.)
There's no front desk person in the lobby of the flats (i.e no doorman, etc.) Not a problem, but something to know. There's a phone in the lobby-- you dial 800 to get to the hotel desk if needed. It was always answered promptly. Our flat was right next to the lobby, so it was like a big second living room for me ...but what if you needed to reach the hotel desk immediately and couldn't? There's no internal phone in the flats with which to reach the front desk of the hotel.
Perhaps it's a cultural difference, but when I've rented a holiday flat, there have always been a few helpful items to start you off on your first day(tea/coffee/paper towels). There were not present at Mercader. There's a "pod"coffee maker, but no "starter pack" of even a few coffee pods, let alone creamer or sugar! Since hotels with in-room coffee=makers have actual coffee, why not have a few in the flat? The front desk man said they never supply them...apartment guests go to the local grocery store and buy their own pods from day one. While the bathrooms have typical hotel toiletries, there's no hotel-like small pack of coffee or tea.
There's no microwave oven, which means that warming food involves turning on the oven, which heats the entire room. There's a washing machine in the kitchen area--a great benefit. There's no clothes dryer machine, but there is a large drying rack, and warm towel racks.
There are no instructions explaining the electrical appliances. Instructions would be helpful as some of the "universal" icons on the controls made no sense, so that using appliances including towel warmers, or even shower fixtures, was hit or miss. Strongly recommend that management puts together a file of instructions and/or appliance manuals in assorted languages, such as I've seen in all other flats I've rented in both Europe and the USA.
The inaccessibility of items shelves in the kitchen cabinets is very, very frustrating ! Items used every day, such as glasses, were impossible for me, height 5'2"/ 157 cm to reach. It's as if the flat was designed by and for giants! There's no step-stool available--having one would help, since it is too late to change the position of the extremely high cabinets. Seriously, without two tall family members, the experience of benign the flat would've been much less positive. It's a mystery how the housekeepers can place plates and glasses in the kitchen cabinet, or towels on the elevated shelf rack in the shower enclosure.
On first look, the flat looked perfectly clean. Later, I (with help from tall family) got a glass that was badly smudged with fingerprints and water drips. then, during one day's housekeeping, tile areas in both bathrooms and kitchen were mopped and after the housekeeper left, the odor of sour, foul, mildewed bucket water and cleaning mop sponge floated through the air. It was so strong and unpleasant that I got a towel, put bath gel on it, and re-wiped the floors. to eliminate the unpleasant strong odor. The sponge/mop must not have been properly sanitized or cleaned for days. Upon hearing this, front desk staff apolgized, saying she would inform the housekeeping supervisor. Based on the great interaction with hotel staff, I'm sure this was resolved.
Overall, Mercader Apartments are a great place in Barcelona, in particular for families or groups of 4 -5 people, but with a few things to be aware of before your stay.
